forgoton classics - Sci Fi movies

I remember that one as a kid. Seems like it was an all-star cast. The bus had a guy playing piano in the back. Crazy what comes back 35 years later.

The piano was nothing, the thing had a bowling ally too. Here's another clip, it's dubbed in Spanish (Oddly, there are no English versions on the 'Tube)...
Keep in mind, this silliness is Pre-"Airplane!" too.

All non-brits who've seen Krull please raise your hands :)

I saw it in a southern Utah cinema in 1983! And then on cable about 6 or 1100 times between 1984 and 1990. And I have it on video, but I need to get the DVD because the tape is in awful shape!

Did you know Krull began life as the Dungeons&Dragons movie? I think it was budgetary concerns that changed the project into the sci-fi/fantasy mash-up it is today, but you can still see remnants of the D&D idea in the final movie: The Wizard, the Thief, etc.

I know it's cheesy as all hell, but I love Krull with all my little 13-year-old heart (even if I am 40)!

I tried to go over this entire thread to see if anyone mentions Fantastic voyage (1966). If not entirely forgotten, it doesn't receive the attention that I think it deserves. Outstanding special effects (won an Oscar), interesting story, great action and Raquel Welch at the peak of her hotness. I believe that Isaac Asimov worked with the script-writers as science advisor.

I always liked 'Star Crystal' (-86). I like b-70/80's sci-fi flicks, and this one had a particulary nice song in the end. I still have the old vhs tape that I bought in the late 80's. I have no idea if it's even available on dvd.

Then, for animated sci-fi movies, I just love 'Starchaser: Legend of Orin' (-85). In the late 90's I actually manage to get in touch with Jeffrey Scott, the writer. I was looking for it on dvd, since my vhs tape had been lost by an unreliable friend, so I just had to have it. He informed that there were copyright issues going on and he couldn't say when or even if it would be released on dvd. But a few years later I found it on dvd, bought it, and loved it still.

The Tingler was one of those '50s flicks that came with a gimmick iirc. It was about this thing that looked like a foot long version of the thing that crawls into Chekov's ear in wrath of khan that 'tingled' people to death. In some cinemas a couple of chairs were wired to a battery and patrons were given mild electric shocks at scary moments in the film.

Krull was a far better effort as a D&D movie than the pitiful attempts we've seen of late. I never thought it was all that cheesy, actually quite a good film.

Anyone remember "The Demon Seed"?

I just re-watched Demon Seed a few weeks ago (and also posted it in another thread for Horror Movie recommendations). It's a fun watch.

And regarding "The Forbin Project", I always wondered if Colossus, being a computer from the 70's, would have crashed on the the year 2000. :D

If Colossus had survived, all the Windows blue screens of death might have been replaced with the crawling LED message GET ME GATES!

:w2:

Saw it when it came out, and, later, bought it on VHS.

Speaking of the Seventies, anyone ever see a Sort of Sci-Fi/comedy/disaster movie called, "The Big Bus"? It's a parody of the disaster movies of the day, featuring an atomic powered cross country double decker, double long Bus...

:p

I vaguely recall this one, but I must've been pretty young when it came out, since I didn't even realize it was a parody.

Or was there another Bus disaster movie?

Wait, are you a not-UK-ian calling the movies "the cinema"?

My family's from Chicago, and we called it we always called it going to the (movie) theater, or sometimes just "the show". But when we moved to Kentucky, a lot of people there referred to going to "the cinemas" (plural at that point because they were all multiplexes).

I have 3D Japanese VHD Video Disc copies of Starchaser, Metalstorm, Spacehunter, Jaws 3D, Friday The 13th 3D and Comin' At Ya! in field-sequential 3D (the kind that uses 3D shutter glasses).

The best bad movie ever -- StarCrash.

The was just called, "Frogs". :eye-poppi
I recall that having one of the most enticing (yet misleading) movie posters ever. It showed a giant frog with a human hand sticking out of its mouth. The scene never appeared in the movie and I felt ripped off.

You are quite correct, and not alone, I felt ripped as well.
No monster frogs at all, just a lot of ordinary amphibians hopping around.
Sort of "The Birds" with frogs... Only frogs don't really have anything threatening about them in the least.
Birds have a nice pointy beak and, I guess tiny claws too.
What's a frog going to do, shoot its long sticky tongue at you? Rid your house of flies? Woo, scary.

:tongue-ti
