I've been following the Kyron Hormon case on this website

http://www.websleuths.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=318

And I was surprised to see a section on Forensic Astrology. I'm sort of interested in this because I know absolutely nothing about it. Of course I think most astrology is a sort of pareidolia of the mind where we see connections when we want to. But at the same time some of the readings seem pretty interestingly accurate PRIOR to the reader knowing specific details.

Anyone follow this bunk and care to explain it a bit? And do cops really rely on people like this on a missing persons case?

I'm a member of that website, and they frequently have threads for what they call "forensic astrology". It is complete woo.

I recall during the pond draining at the Mondex trying to find little HaLeigh Cumming's body, the moon was in New Moon phase. Someone, a "forensic astrologist" posted that she believed that this search would culminate in the finding of the the girl's body, b/c full moons were indicative of things coming to an end.

When someone pointed out that it was, in fact, a New Moon phase, the poster then blithely asserted: Oh, of course! This will mean the finding of the child's body and the beginning of the prosecution phase, b/c New Moon's are indicative of change and new things.

In the space of two posts she had found affirmation in the exact same activities for whichever moon phase she thought it was. It was simply a matter of how she looked at the police activities and how she then interpreted it.

In reality, the search turned up nothing.

(bolding mine)

But of course, because everyone knows it has to be a Full Moon to bring things to completion. Don't these guys know anything? :boggled:

Woo has a way of becoming real. It is real enough to get people to move huge rocks to the coast of Easter Island, and worse.

As a meme, it can reek havoc.

But then, anti-woo reeks some havoc of its own.

Forensic Astrology is actually a lot like Forensic Alchemy and Forensic Divination.

And by that I mean you take any BS superstitious practice and try to make it sound scientific or credible by adding "Forensic." Go ahead and try it. It really works. Watch...

"Forensic Transubstantiation."

See?

It needs one more moniker to make it rule:

"Inverse Forensic Transubstantiation"

See?

ETA, I have a tendency to reply to posts as I hit them rather than going all the way through.

Jeez. Ya big baby, Alan! Okay, here's your wave technology and we toss Astrology back in there as that was the OP, anyway.

Seamless Quantum Nano-Stealth Wave Technology Zero Point Forensic Astrology

And it makes a trips-off-the-tongue anagram: SQNSWTZPFA

I dunno. Doesn't sound very "Earth Friendly" to me; there might be chemicals involved.

Better toss in an "All Natural" somewhere
