Flag Waving patriot.

The other week I was feeling patriotic so I went out to buy and American flag. Ironically I found flags that were made in communist China.

Not for me. So instead I bought a 13 star colonial flag (screw them johnny come lately states) . It was made in Mexico. The flag pole was from Indoneisa.

FYI, flags dont have sales tax.

US flags made in CHina?

What's next? US warplanes made in Iraq? At least they won't need to be transported.

That's only part of the story. I work for British Petroleum. Last year in Houston, they sponsored the Fourth of July celebration, and handed out American flags with a "made in China" marker on them. Now what could be more ironic that a country sponsoring a celebration for a war that they lost then giving out flags made by one our biggest rivals? I saved my flag for future laughs.

There are plenty of American companies that make flags. But like most people, you were looking for whatever flag was cheapest. Which is why they are made in China. You got what you deserved.

Is it still accurate to refer to China as communist? They seem to be embracing capitalism.

I've been thinking about ordering a flag flown over the Capitol, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

How To Order A Flag That Has Flown Over the Capitol

You can purchase a US flag that has flown over the United States Capitol building in Washington, D.C., by ordering it from your US Senator or US Representative. In fact, this is the only way to purchase one of these flags.

Certificate of authenticity. You may request that your flag be flown on a certain date such as a birthday or anniversary. A certificate showing it was flown over the Capitol accompanies each flag. If you mention in your letter or on your request form that this flag is for any specific occasion, that information will be included on the certificate. If you are requesting a specific date, please make your request at least 4 weeks prior to that date.

Fabric and size of flags. All flags are made in the United States. The cotton flags come in two sizes: 3’x5’ or 5’x8’. The nylon flags come in the same size as the cotton and one additional size: 4’x6’.

Prices. According to a survey we recently conducted, the specific prices vary from office to office. The prices include only the costs of the flag itself, the certificate, and shipping and handling. The payment must be a check or money order made payable to the fund designated by the specific Congressional office.

Order information. Most web sites of Representatives and Senators have a page devoted to the process for ordering flags from their offices. Check for a link to "Constituent Services" or "Services" for the ordering information for that office. If you find that the web site does not tell how to order a flag, please call the State or field office of the member of Congress for the information.

Additional questions. If you need any additional information or assistance about this issue or on other questions about the Federal Government’s agencies, programs, and services, please call the National Contact Center toll-free at 1-800-FED-INFO. It is open for personal assistance from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., eastern time, Monday through Friday, except on Federal holidays.

I notice they are not advertising that the flags were made in America, just flown there. You might still get a flag made in China.

(And what if you got one that flew over the capitol during the Clinton years? Horrors!! )

Why is it important where the flags are made? If you buy a flag not made in the US does that make you less patriotic?

Why are other countries and foreign companies criticised for participating in the free market economy?

When these countries and foreigen corperations make competing products that can be purchased in the US , why do some people complain when they sell their wares in the US?

It seems that some in the US want it both ways: We endorse a free market economy only so much that profits are not infringed upon. American made products must be sold and compete world wide with out competition from foreign companies within the United States.

A global economy means goods produced from around the globe.

Get over it already.

They must sell a lot of Stars n' Stripes in the middle east.

I often wondered where they get all those US flags that they burn in the streets. There must me a mid-east store that makes a killing selling super-flammable US flags.

By the way, Im not offened by flags being made oversees, I just thought that it was funny/ironic.
