Firefox - problems with JREF?

I have to agree with Gnome here - I'm still getting problems with 1.07 when I'm a bit too quick with the back/forward buttons.

It's not such a big deal. I suppose I can start using Opera for this forum.
 
Apparently, suppression of FlashBlock had a limited impact on the phenomenon. Maybe it happens a bit less often. And indeed it is solely when clicking the "back" arrow.

Answering Underemployed: it's my own computer, with Sygate Personal Firewall running (never had any trouble with SPF).

Hmm, if it continues this thread will have to be moved to General Skepticism and The Paranormal...

Erm, nope! Ours are SO old that they don't even run DOS, let alone Windows! :) But this is my usual JREF platform, as described above. Although recently I used some Win2003 Server and Red Hat machines.

Actually I am now using Opera and loving it. Opera 8.5 is really slick.

Firefox.... you're fired!
 
I have the same problem, it is when I try and go back through a load of pages quickly. It hasn't happened on any other sites so far, and only started here after the upgrade. I thought it was my mouse gestures extension to begin with.

I'm going to do an experiment. I have FF 1.04, a dial up connection and no mouse gesture software installed. I'm going to use the back up key to try to go through the previous pages. I'm going to hit the key five times quickly. If that works. I'll try a few other things. If I don't report back assume I've crashed.

I'm using windows XP on a few years old emachine. The only crashes I've had turned out to be hardware related. I managed to fix this by pulling the memory cards out and reinserting them. I haven't hand any crashes for several months since I did that.

Well, the experiment ended a bit equivocally. I wasn't able to crash my machine, but I did manage to cause FF to crash. But only once. I restarted it and banged on it for about ten minutes and it kept on working. I did fill out the firefox crash form about the incident. I referenced this thread in the form.

Make sure your Java runtime is up to date, any website that uses it can cause a lot of crashes in Firefox + Old Java Runtimes. It has gotten better in 1.0.7 but given the latest update, I haven't seen mine crash while using Java in a long time now.
 
Have been trying to crash FF 1.0.6 on this forum. XP on an Athlon processor. Solid as a rock.

AUP, which website has caused you a death-loop problem?
 
No more problems since installation of FF 1.5 Beta 2.


Have tried Opera (8.5) again:
  • A bit slower than the last FF release.
  • A lot lighter than FF in RAM.
  • Less handy (where are the right click options of NoScript, BBCode?)
  • Troubles with display.
  • Problem accessing my admin panel in a forum.
With my system, and given my Internet use, odds are clearly in favour of FF.

Another one here. Both FF 1.06 and 1.07 on XPHome. Also the back button, also this forum.

This is the only forum I stay on long enough to use the back button, so it might happen elsewhere too.
It was worse with 1.06 than 1.07 .
 
The beta version of FF seems to clear up the problem... but the disappearing scrollbar is back :(

Firefox, why hast thou forsaken me?
 
Doesn't look as if this is something we can fix on our end.

I suggest you all use Opera - I have no problems... :p
 
Well, I just had my first total crash in months and it happened when I was using the forward and back buttons in FF. I had a text box open.

I still have FF 1.04 and I have Java plug in 1.3.1_02.

For some reason the automatic error reporting for FF doesn't work for me, so I didn't report the problem.
 
Sorry to interrupt the flow, but I've only just started using Firefox.

Can someone tell me how to force it to open new windows as a clone of the current window with the browsing history accessible through the Back button instead of opening the browser home page.
