I wouldn't recommend it right now. Bon Echo Alpha 1 has the new Places system, which is a unified system for storing bookmarks, history and other data. Unfortunately, Places isn't quite there yet, and it has been decided that Places won't be in Firefox 2.0. Installing Bon Echo Alpha 1 will convert you bookmarks to the Places system, and the next time you upgrade, they'll have to be converted back. Obviously, you should always back up you profile directory before using an alpha version.
Apart from some bookmark wierdness I haven't had any problems with Bon Echo. As usual, most extensions haven't been updated to support Firefox 2.0 yet. There aren't any earth shattering changes. Lots of small improvements everywhere, and most of them aren't user visible. I think the only change that most users will notice is that every tab now has it's own close button (like Safari etc).

I have to trust Darat on the Security thing, but Opera 9 is noticeably faster than Firefox.

Why do you use the Google toolbar with Firefox? Since pop-up blocking became browser-standard, I haven't really seen any advantages to it.
