Fiorina: Palin not qualified to run a corporation

From CNN:
(CNN) — Hours after top McCain aide Carly Fiorina said Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin isn't qualified to run a major corporation, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO said she doesn't think John McCain is either.

In comments that are strikingly off message as the Arizona senator attempts to position himself as the candidate best positioned to fix the country's economic woes, Fiorina said in an interview on MSNBC Tuesday running a Fortune 500 corporation is not the same as running the country.

“Well, I don't think John McCain could run a major corporation, I don't think Barack Obama could run a major corporation, I don't think Joe Biden could run a major corporation," Fiorina, a top McCain advisor, said.

"But, on the other hand, a major corporation is not the same as being the president or the vice president of the United States," she continued. "It is a fallacy to suggest that the country is like a company. So, of course, to run a business, you have to have a lifetime of experience in business, but that's not what Sarah Palin, John McCain, Joe Biden, or Barack Obama are doing."

I guess Fiorina thinks it's easier to be CEO of the U.S. than it is to be CEO of a large corporation?

Based on the phenomonal mess Fiorina created at HP, she should have added herself to the list of people unqualified to run a major corporation.

Funny how, even though Fiorina says none of the 4 candidates are qualified to run a corporation (and that this is irrelevant to being president), the CNN lede only mentions McCain and Palin. Hmmm... wonder why some people are getting the impression that the media is biased.

No. She thinks it's different. Logic 101: you failed.

Wow...in just two posts you totally changed your argument. The ol' Media is Liberal deal? Huh?

Can I assume that you consider False News to be "Fair and Balanced"?

Fiorina was a freaking hack at HP, McCain should have vetted her a little better...oh wait, this is a campaign that chose Palin.

With all those faults McCain/Palin will still win. Why do you think that is?

A high-profile McCain adviser questioning the ability of Obama or Biden is not news. Said adviser speaking same words about her own candidates is news.

Regardless of whether or not there's merit to what she said --and I think a president should be able to run a company, not a huge difference there except a president has to please a lot more shareholders -- it was a foolish sounding thing to claim.

Well, let's see, the two guys who could have run a large-sized business in politics lately have been Bush, a Harvard MBA, and Cheney, who ran Halliburton.

Still think the skills are transferable?

:D

How did the stock do during her tenure?

Isn't Bush generally recognized as a failed businessman prior to politics? Cheney was successful, though, so I guess even if you have business leadership skills, it won't guarantee making a good Pres/VP.

I sure wouldn't want Obama, McCain, Biden or Palin to be the CEO of my company. Cheney would probably be OK though.

Beat me to it. She seemed like one of those executives that the media loved but the tech brotherhood and employees of the actual company hated.

Like GE (Welch), Harrahs/Ceasars, etc.

Ah. . different, as in someone could run the world's largest economy, handle international relations, command the world's largest military, face untold emergencies, etc., but not have the executive ability and economic know-how to manage a corporation?

ETA: You're right though--there is a difference. A corporate exec is answerable to the stockholders, where it seems that our nation's chief executive is above the law and answerable to no one.

News Flash: Palin unqualified to architect a building. Must mean she's unqualified to be President. After all, it couldn't possibly be harder to design a building than it is to run the world's most powerful country, could it?

Excellent point. The problem with what Fiorina said is that it's an incredibly politically stupid thing to say. You have a top McCain aide saying she's not qualified for <fill in blank>. You don't say "not qualified" when it comes to a candidate who's qualifications are being question to begin with. The two words should never be mentioned in the same sentence when directed at Palin. It's a sound bite that can so easily be exploited.

I hope the left continues to keep making these claims of her not being qualified. Please, I beg you to do so.. because it will only serve to remind undecided people that Obama is also very unqualified. You denied the experience angle for months and months, and now try to steal it for yourself. I repeat, this will only make the more undecided people who weren't sure about Obama even less sure about him because he is ON TOP OF YOUR TICKET. You can't say she is unqualified for VICE PRESIDENT role, without completely damning him as well considering he's your actual PRESIDENTIAL pick.

I know you think it's actually a Republican hypocrisy to have damned Obama while picking her, but that's not how it's resonating with people. They are being reminded of how extremely inexpereinced OBAMA is compared to MCCAIN. OBAMA vs MCCAIN, because that is the matchup. Not OBAMA vs PALIN.

They aren't that worried about her, despite ongoing claims that McCain could "die any day" (which is nothing more than fearmongering).

The experience talk only reminds people that Obama is insanely weak in the experience department himself. Deny it all you want, it's the truth. If you were as smart as you guys claim you are, you'd want to stop talking about exerpience completely and hope it never comes up again.

Seriously, you guys have a loser in this one, and I sincerely hope you keep screaming about it. It's backfiring on you so bad, and you simply refuse to see that. Please, please keep complaining about her experience. Loudly, everywere you can. In the store, in the mall, on your blackberry's while sipping coffee at cafes. Wherever, whenever. It's only resonating with people who share your politics and worldview. It's doing wonders on the undecideds in the middle though. So please, keep on talking about it. :)
