It's hard to see how. Copyright applies the moment a work is fixed in a medium, irrespective of what the medium is.

It doesn't matter if you write it down, burn it on DVD-R, etch it into a PC board or engrave it on the head of a pin, the moment you put your work in a form that can be copied from, you have the exclusive right to make copies. Showing it in theaters isn't really relevant to that.

Of course, fair use still applies, so quoting portions of a work for the purpose of reviewing or analyzing it ought still to be kosher.

Even if there would be a problem with direct quotes it should still be possible to paraphrase, that is, to restate the claims you're examining in your own words, e.g. "at 37:16, the voiceover claims that a Vogon constructor fleet was seen over Manhattan" and then proceed to produce the evidence relating to the claim.

Since it looks like Dylan and Co. are just going to be repeating a load of the same old fetid dingo's kidneys, a review like Gravy's might not require much in the way of additional original work- just a retweaking to conform it to the final form of LC:FC.

But know this:

This is their last dance. They will not make enough money to sustain them for very long (especially split multiple ways) and none of them have the creative or artistic talent to succeed in the film-making industry. This time next year, long after Final Cut ceased being relevant, they will have no more projects. Then they will slink back into a pedestrian lifestyle working to spend the money they've "earned", which will likely be gone (and not replaced) in a few years.
 
Ya know. Many people published books and DVDs with the sole purpose of debunking The DaVinci Code. Gravy and the SLC folks might want to think about combining their information into a single work, and make some money off of Dylan and Co.

I've always loved this forums ability to make me look up at least one word in the dictionary a day.

Now serisouly? Daid ray Griffin? A theologist, Dylan? A THEOLOGIST? He probably checked the facts the same way you did when creating this film!

And it worries me, perhaps it's a futile feeling but, what if there is a group of people who will take ALL of this crazy talk serisouly. And I mean SERISOULY. and will attempt to willfully murder someone they think is involved, because they based their actions on the evidence you and Alex Jones gave them?
Because that is the extreme, the extreme is what you "truthers" aim for. They think they're "cutting away the strings with which the elite has controlled everybody for years."
I think the only thing that upsets me....it's not the film....it's not Dylan....it's the fact that the information that is being thrown out there has the capability of generating something Bad. It'll look like the right thing to do in your crazy fans' heads....and that is probably the worst type of psychotic, schizophrenic, egocentrical murder you can have.

I am far less sanguine than many of you regarding the poor prospects for this release. I am constantly amazed at the gullibility and stupidity of people regarding this topic. Griffin will have a full hour on a local radio station this coming weekend (I'd be in his face but I'll be out of town). It is a small station owned locally so is not streamed over the internet or I would notify you of it.

Anyway, I am very concerned that this release might have a favorable public acceptance and reaction. I hope not, but my confidence is low.

A million+ views on google has done nothing. Getting screened in a few rep cinemas won't do a thing either.

It really all depends on what kind of media attention it gets, if any at all. Simply being shown in a limited number of theaters across the country isn't going to do much for them in terms of reaching a new audience. All the regular troothers and kooks will flock to the few theatres that are showing it, but not many disinterested members of the general public will even notice unless the big media get hold of it. I suppose the affiliation with Charlie Sheen could get it a bit more exposure than otherwise, but a washed-up actor is hardly the ideal media magnet. Moreover, they lack a massive advertising campaign of their own, unlike big budget documentary films such as Fahrenheit 911.
 
If the media is "quiet" about the release, Dylan and company will no doubt declare that it's out of fear or and attempt to suppress through silence.

What they don't realize is that the media could easily and quickly turn public opinion against them if they really wanted to shut them up.

Have more faith in people! Scientology gets plenty of exposure but is acknowledged by the general public as being kooky, regardless of how many celebrities they throw at us.

I think a large portion of the public will see LC (if they see it at all) for what it is - a load of bunk. Sure, they may not take to the streets and argue with the truthers, but that's probably because, to most people, it's just too stupid to bother addressing.
