The arrests of two women in New York accused of plotting to carry out bombings remind us that the threat of terrorism inside the United States endures. We must remain vigilant against these types of attacks and place a high priority on tracking and interdicting such plots.

I am particularly struck that the alleged bombers made use of online bombmaking guides like the Anarchist Cookbook and Inspire Magazine. These documents are not, in my view, protected by the First Amendment and should be removed from the Internet.
Good luck with that.

From what I've seen of The Anarchist's Cookbook, it resembles more of a suicide kit than a terrorist manual.

And there's no way to stop people from learning this stuff. It is pretty basic science.

On a tangential note: Oof, that comment section. Also, oof, some of those other posts on that site.

that's nothing, e.g. Palahniuk's Fight Club was banned in China in 1999 for giving instructions on how to make various explosive devices...hahahahahahahahahahahaha and 20000 leagues under the sea will one day suggest someone into designing submersible watercrafts

Quickly! We must seal the barn doors shut. The animals already escaped, but if we hurry we can keep the Streisand Effect contained inside!

LOL...Politicos have been trying to suppress the Cookbook since the 70s, and I remember it being online as early as the 80s.

Good luck with that, Dianne.

Umm... yeah. The Anarchist's Cookbook was old news when Feinstein was still young. If it wasn't "protected by the first amendment" it would have been out of circulation before the internet even existed.

Yep. Anyone who has researched such things should know the cookbook is old and the recipes in there are largely either unsafe or ineffective.

Real wannabe bomb makers go for the Army munitions black book.

Also if the AC is a terrorist manual but is pretty poor quality does that make the Army's manual the super terrorist manual?

I was aware of the cookbook (a friend had a copy) in the early 80s. But I can understand the need to delete it from the internet. So if you don't mind...... <CTRL-X>. You're welcome.

Feinstein is not good on free speech issues. She also supported the atrocious flag burning amendment in 2006.

HaHA ! Caught yoU ! You intended to keep it somewhere else or you would have used DEL. Now you are only a CRTL-V away to be one of those anarchist criminal spreading information.

On a tangent, what's in the cookbook that you cannot get from chemistry book and patent ? How to do it with household products which stopped existing 20 years ago ?

In the early 90's I was asked by police to extract files from a suspect's computer disk. Guess what was on it? This was before the Internet became popular, when computer users were swapping information via a network of bulletin boards. I identified that the file had been downloaded from a particular local board that was well know for having 'suspect' material on it.

And the crime? A bomb had been let off in an attempt to blow up a shop in the same block where I lived! According to police the perp got his bomb plans from the Anarchist's Cookbook. It was a racially motivated act that today would be called a hate crime or even terrorism, and although the bomb caused little damage it had the desired effect (sufficient intimidation to force the 'ethnic' owners to permanently close their business).

We have to draw a line between 'free speech' and inciting violence. Some stuff on the 'net is on the wrong side of that line, and should be removed.

Would you care to propose a plan of action?

I would like to hear proposals for removing this information from the internet. What would that entail? How would you ensure that it wasn't added back to the internet after you were done? Who would conduct this work and who would fund it?

I know conservatives get pissy about providing food to hungry lazy people, I get pissy about throwing money and angry rhetoric at problems that can not be solved with money or angry rhetoric, or even "a ban".
