Merged FBI raids midwestern Christian Militias - planning to kill cops. / Terrorist?

Goram fundies ... what next? Suicide vests on Mackinac Island?

God..Killing Cops to spark a revolultion. Sounds like a wierd mutated version of SLA/Weathernman ideology from the 60's and 70's.
I will be happier when these nutters are behind bars where they belong.

I don't really understand this...no, not the part about crazy people with guns running around Michigan, that's been going on for years...but the theology. I mean if their christianists and they believe Jesus is coming back...why would they have to be ready to fight the anti-christ? Wouldn't they be raptured up and not have to worry about us "left behind"?

The right wing fringe is channeling the 60s.

First we have the teabaggers that are looking more and more like yippies, and now the right wing weathermen.... Palin has about as much political credibility than Abbie Hoffman, etc.

Not necessarily. While "rapture theology" is certainly popular, it's neither universal nor is it particularly well-supported in terms of Biblical text. In particular:

In 1 Thessalonians 4:17 Paul describes the Second Coming not only in terms of the resurrection of the dead, but also that those alive will be "caught up" with those resurrected to meet the returned Christ in the air. In early Latin translations (the Vulgate) the Greek word for "caught up" in this verse was translated by the Latin rapiemur, from which we get the term "rapture." But from a single word used in a Latin translation, and the ambiguous concept of "caught up," to extrapolate the detailed sequence of events that are often promoted in movies and by prophecy experts is to force the biblical text to say far more than it does or can.

It is important to know that the term "rapture", and most of the popular ideas associated with it, arose out of the dispensational and millenarian (Adventist) movements of the mid to latter 19th century. That suggests that the idea of a "rapture," especially the idea of a "secret" rapture, is far more historically and culturally conditioned then it is a biblical or theological truth.

Interesting. They talk about facism and yet were curiously reticent between 2000 and 2008. Now they're coming out of the woodwork. And it doesn't help when you have people like Rush Limbaugh saying "We need to wipe them out."

"Words mean things" - Rush Limbaugh.

Odd how Limbaugh and his ilk (yes, I'm talking to you O'Reilly, you of Tiller the Baby Killer talk) say the most outrageous things that repeated ad nauseum can incite their followers to violence yet when called on it they say it is improper to link political speech to these acts of violence.

I am sure Hannity is busy distancing his words from these Christian terrorists right now. I can outline the right's strategy:

1. First question whether it is a set-up and govt is leaning on a peaceful Christian organization.

1b. Claim these conditions are being created as a pretext for the Obama administration to finally move to supress not only these groups but to undermine the 2nd Amendment

2. Question every piece of evidence presented by the biased media against these Christian terrorists

3. Say it is paramount that we proceed with a presumption of innocence and not allow the court of public opinion to render a verdict before any trials

4. When the government actually presents concrete evidence of intent to commit terrorism, claim that these people were not real Christians as real Christians would not engage in these sorts of acts.

5. Say that the left is far worse and loudly discuss The Weathermen bombings and Bill Ayers.

Lurker: you forgot the accusation that these conditions are being created as a pretext for the Obama administration to finally move to supress not only these groups but to undermine the 2nd Amendment.

I find the indictment odd. This sounds a little bit like treason to me, but I'm not exactly up on The Law in that regard.

Yeah, I just read the indictment. Just a statement of the charges, no evidence so we will have to wait and see what develops. But from how it read, it sounds like they were planning on engaging in domestic terrorism. Better the FBI acts now before it happens than after.

Some right wingers are already claiming it looks like a government set up. I tell ya, you can't win with some people. If the FBI goes in early before the terrorist act then they are blamed for trampling the poor Christian's free speech and 2nd amendment rights. "They weren't doing anything wrong" If they wait til after the terrorist act then the govt is blamed via the "all the clues were there, why didn't the FBI act?" whine.

I'll wait with an interested eye and see what the evidence seems to be.

Why aren't they being waterboarded to determine if they have any other info on impending attacks??

Aren't we "courting disaster" by not doing so?

Because their skin is the wrong color. White folks are smart enough to be able to lie under torture.
