CNN did a follow up on this story earlier this week in their program BackStory. They got hold of the complete footage from the Gaza hospital and brought in two american ER pediatric doctors to review it.

The additional footage and the comments by the doctors should leave no doubt about this being authentic. One has to be pretty cold hearted and in denial of the consequences of high intensity combat in a densely populated urban setting to claim otherwise.

I concur. I must commend CNN for following up on this story. As a physician, I can state that the additional footage looks authentic. It even explains one of the major areas of controversy, the seemingly ineffective chest compressions being performed by the man to the right. The additional photos show the physician on the left attempting to correct his assistant's technique, as well as performing much more effective compressions on his own.

To have faked the event with this degree of realism suggests a conspiracy for which there is no credible evidence.

"They were very scared, and very nervous … They dropped their weapons and ordered me to get them out, to put them in the ambulance and take them away. I refused, because if the IDF sees me doing this I am finished, I cannot pick up any more wounded people.
"And then one of the fighters picked up a gun and held it to my head, to force me. I still refused, and then they allowed me to leave."

It also contains an interview with a leader of one of the Al-Aqsa brigades:

Of course we fought together with Hamas because we all have the same aim: to liberate our homeland," he said.

Its interesting how they all claim to have been 'fighting' the Israelis.

Well, as George C. Scott pointed out in the movie Patton, no one ever won a war by dying for his country. You win a war by making the other poor bastard die for his country.

As for the hypocrisy, I see a whole lot of Christians crying at funerals when they should be elated that their saintly loved ones are now in Heaven.

I am not aware of any country who has a "live and let live" policy with collaborators in time of war. How would you treat people who were feeding the enemy strategic information, leading to deaths of your comrades? This is the worst sort of treason.

A better question is the probability of receiving a fair trial under Hamas. Minimal, I would guess.

Don't know. What usually happens to people who try to subvert the red cross/red crescent system in a war zone?

I will admit it is not textbook CPR. You will also note that no one is making an attempt to ventilate the patient. It looks to me like this was a brief, half-hearted attempt by doctors who knew the patient was already dead. If I am not mistaken, the second doctor says "extreme bradycardia" and "flat line".

CPR is taught differently to medical personnel and lay people. In this case, the child is on a ventilator: the additional photos show the breathing tube and his chest rising and falling. There was therefore no need for mouth-to-mouth or bag mask ventilation.

Lots of controversy over this video and whether or not it's legitimate:



The criticisms are:
1. Presence of Norwegian Hamas supporter doctor Mads Gilbert, who is on record as saying doctors should take sides in conflicts and that he supports the 9/11 attacks.

2. The guy doing the chest compressions is barely applying any pressure at all on the chest, it's as if he has no CPR training at all.

3. Blood spot on sheet gets bigger between hospital and cemetary.

4. Video has obvious cuts in it.

5. While carrying the body head is unsupported but doesn't flop around, but body is still limber indicating no rigor mortis.

I know we have some medical professionals on this site whose opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm on the fence about this one, but leaning towards fake.
