I remember a "Law and Order" episode that dealt with this in the early 90's. I believe they were trying to prove a doctor was a quack, and just telling parents of autistic children what they wanted to hear. The solution was simple, they had one of the parent's vision impaired and showed a picture to the child, then had the parent use the technique they were taught. Low and behold it didn't work, it's that simple to disprove.

Of course, you will come across as the bad guy, instead of the person exploiting another person's hope for a normal life for a loved one.

I don't see where Randi accuses the entire academic community of ignoring it, unless you take his comment about "the ivory tower" as a generalization. Syracuse University certainly seems to have, though.

The "Ivory Tower" is a paintbrush that tars the whole academic communitity. Must be stupid brights.

I strongly recommend everyone read the Transcript of the Frontline program regarding Facilitated Communication. It's even worse than Randi said in his commentary. The sexual abuse allegations that arose from it are chilling.

To think Biklen and Syracuse University continue to promote this bogus art is unconscionable.

I'd say F/C is Million Dollar Challenge worthy.
