Facebook "aim to build a culture that explicitly protects and promotes civil rights on Facebook."

Here's the second update from their Civil Rights Audit.

https://newsroom.fb.com/news/2019/06/second-update-civil-rights-audit/

Today’s report recommends we go further to include content that supports white nationalist ideology even if the terms “white nationalism” and “white separatism” aren’t explicitly used. We’re addressing this by identifying hate slogans and symbols connected to white nationalism and white separatism to better enforce our policy.

We also recently updated our policies so Facebook isn’t used to organize events that intimidate or harass people based on their race, religion, or other parts of their identity.

They now ban posts from people who intend to bring weapons anywhere to intimidate or harass others, or who encourage people to do the same.

There are updates to prevent discrimination in targeted US housing, employment and credit ads.

They're going to treat next year’s US census like an election — with people, policies and technology in place to protect against census interference and misinformation, and working to ban ads that discourage people from voting.

They will work with voting rights experts to make sure key members of their election team are trained on trends in voter intimidation and suppression so they can remove this content from Facebook more effectively.

I've posted several times about changes Facebook keep making to keep their business profitable.

I've somehow taken on this job because I find it far more interesting than saying "Facebook is ****" and not thinking much further about it.

I'm finding it refreshing to see how improving equality and truth seem to also be profitable.

While Facebook lost a few million users in the US (perhaps due to a current national negativity), it was gaining those numbers back in emerging economies.

I hope they actually follow through with this with all the implications. None of us can afford them taking any half-measures.

Facebook have actually done an awful lot to respond to concerns from its user base. It still has some way to go, of course, but a lot of the complaints I see now I can respond with "you know you can fix that, right?"

This policy sounds so open ended that it could see pro Trump posts censored.

Only because much of what Trumpers post is hate-speech, supporting white nationalism and inciting violence. The problem lies with them, not with facebook's policy.

And I am sure you will be along to post links to stats on % of posts accepted as hate speech universally by Trump voters any minute now......

You will sing a different tune when your views get attacked by the censors.

1. First they came for the Nazis, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Nazi.
2. Then they came for the Trumpistas, because they were essentially as bad as Nazis.
3. ???
4. Profit

to mix analogies.

The far left will just end up being the next one in your list

Quite surprising you can't see this

As we all know because Europe has hate speech laws, there are no far right parties in any governments and open borders policies were celebrated with fanfare and ethnic food festivals.

Seems a lot of horror bands, hip hop artists and punk rockers are going to be affected by this if they enforce it fairly.

But hey, who doesn't want to live in the movie demolition man.

Sounds like a possibility of Tyranny by the Minority, the SJWs.

I think Communism provides a much better historical model for this kind of thing. First they get rid of the fascists. Then they get rid of anyone fascist-adjacent. Then they get rid of anyone insufficiently loyal to the cause. Then they start to work on each other. Trotsky wasn't assassinated because he was essentially as bad as the fascists. He was assassinated because he promoted a competing vision of Marxism. Chinese villagers weren't persecuted and killed during the Great Leap Forward because of their fascist tendencies, but simply because they were getting in the way of the progress of the State.

That's the endgame you're talking about.
