Explosion at the Boston Marathon.

I have a friend running there too. No word from her yet.

Some REALLY graphic photos on the net. Be careful where you click.

Eta: just saw the video. More worried about her family now.

That's good news.

Seems most of the runners had already finished by the time of the blasts.

Based on the clips of the explosion, which show the timer clock, it was around four hours after the race started. That's probably more or less the average amateur runner's time, maybe a little slower. So there would have been many thousands still out on the course at that time, and plenty of spectators waiting for them to finish.

I've heard it reported that as many as 30/365 of all things happen in April. Haven't got a source, though.

lol, well played.

It just seems that the domestic stuff happens in April more often than other months.... could be confirmation bias though

That the Oklahoma City bombing happened on the 19th wasn't an accident, as I've heard it. McVeigh chose that day because the Waco siege ended that day.

I'm just speculating, though. I think it's highly likely that this was a only partially realized cluster attack by right wing domestic terrorists who probably cooked the idea up around the last election, and that the date and location(s) were anything but coincidental.

I have a hunch you may be right.

We'll see. :(

Boston, "Tea Party" and tax day sort of ring in my mind as things that might be related in regards to the incident.

I suppose no one should jump to conclusions, but this seems a bit obvious.

You have to qualify for Boston, so there aren't many 4-hour runners in the field. In theory, the only 4 hour runners should be women over 50 and men over 60. Obviously, reality isn't a theory and the finish line still had lots of people around though, if you look at the video. One runner, right in the middle of the road, went down like he was shot. Nasty.

At first I was going with the, "Probably some stupid kid" hypothesis, but given the number of devices, I'm guessing that's real unlikely now.
