I keep pondering this word today. I almost had my legs chopped off by an old fart driving a BMW today.
I was walking out of a store, the parking lot was mostly empty and serene. A car was passing, so I stopped and waved the driver by. I had plenty of time. Then as I was walking towards my truck across the parking lot (let me emphasize that there wer e plenty of parking spots), this old geezer comes up and of course, wants to park right where I'm walking towards. Well, he catches sight of me and I guess he wanted to step on the brake, but hit the accelerator. There was a big cement structure holding one of the light posts and he smashed into it really hard, about a foot in front of me. His hood, or bonnet if you prefer, popped up about two feet higher right in front of me. I can't help but wonder if I hadn't taken the few seconds to wave the car by if I wouldn't have been smashed.
This isn't my first brush with possible maiming or even death, so I wasn't too flustered, but I kept thinking about this word existentialism.
Why is it that when you are walking somewhere or driving somewhere, there's plenty of room for everyone, but someone has got to have that spot right in front of you?
