Examples of bad "design" in humans

How do you pronounce 'arrogant conceited buffoon' in your world?
I'm sorry, I forgot that Douglas Adams died on the cross for our sins, and was resurrected after three days. His words were written down by his followers, and form the basis of how we should live our lives. They are infallible and always correct.

Douglas Adams would have been the first to tell you that Douglas Adams can be wrong. I like the man, but guess what? Man. I'm sorry I can't join your Adamsian religion, but I have an aversion to that sort of nonsense.
Saying it twice makes it true? And relevant?
No, no, you're missing the point here.

You are claiming that there is something that can cause our extinction. We've eliminated all the common causes. It is up to you to provide evidence for your claim.

The last time you were asked for evidence, you responded with pretty much the classic Appeal to Authority (a vaguely related quote from a famous guy). Care to try again? Because I think your claim is nonsense.
The definition of which would probably be enshrining Douglas Adams as infallible.

Amusing your self in public? How quaint

NB I did not imply that Adams is infallible, just that he is on record for raising some salient points with regard to how self-deception can be comforting, at least in the short term

 In addition to the 'evidence' that you have already provided?

I think your claim is nonsense.
That's nice

It seems that you're so entrenched in your bizarrely contradictory world that you are incapable of recognising the absurd irony of your so-called argument

Self-deception about what? You clearly have some idea of what you think you're saying here, but you've forgotten to clue anyone else in.

Nope. That's not how it works. You seem to think there's some way our species can go extinct.

Up to you to provide a mechanism. Other than that, I'm going to assume it's just like every other stupid doomsday claim, because its as logical and has as much evidence as every other stupid doomsday claim.

If you don't want to be lumped in with the dirty guy on a streetcorner with his placard proclaiming the world will end next Tuesday, it's really up to you to show you're not here.

How does our species die off?
That's niceS

The usual non-point of the illogical.

A quick little note on myopia: it essentially only happens in literate cultures, as if at least the potential for it to happen is caused by cultural literacy and the way people in such cultures use our eyes.

Thank you. Would you say then that myopia evolved after the human-type species split from the common ancestor? I had never thought of that.

Myopia (near-sightedness) caused by excessive use of the eyes looking at near objects during a critical developmental phase, is probably common, if not universal, in mammals.

Not quite. Instead, unlike you - at times - I acknowledge that there is no guarantee that our species will survive for ever...

Considering that 'for ever' is an awfully long time and that many, many species are already extinct, I think it's a relatively rational (albeit gloomy) view

The 'absurd' bit is that you have already described one inevitable cause for our demise... inevitable unless, of course, we do manage to colonise one or more other galaxies... but I for one ain't holding my breath on that front ear

Please note: until this post, I had not made a claim...

You seem to confuse me with someone who actually gives a toss about what you, Mr I'm-So-Bloody-Clever-It-Burns, think about me

Yeah, the expansion of the sun, which should happen in a little over 4 billion years, is probably the soonest likely candidate to cause our species extinction.

Given what we've done with 3-4000 years of community civilization, that's hardly a sure thing.

Riiiight.

I'll be over here now.

Go back to keeping you pessimistic view that it's wishful thinking to think humans won't go extinct, and don't bother to plan with the long (and I do mean long) view in mind.

Considering that 'for ever' is an awfully long time and that many, many species are already extinct, I think it's a relatively rational (albeit gloomy) view

It is only rational if you ignore the differences between species. If you consider all the evidence, the rational conclusion is that humans have a high chance to survive as a species (or species derived from us) for a very, very, very, very long time.
