In the new movie A Matter Of Faith a good Christian father gets to debate an evil evolutionary biologist....and wins! And he doesn't just win the debate but his daughter's soul!

Might be interesting to watch just to see how much they actually get right about evolution and how much is just a huge flaming strawman.

If I hadn't seen it on iMDB, I wouldn't have believed it.

The director's best-reviewed movie, Time Changer, got a 22% on Rotten Tomatoes and earned ... wait for it ... $0.8 million.

Well since in the preview they consistently confuse the issues of abiogenesis and evolution, I would guess that they score poorly.

Woot that's how many christian movie in the last 2 or 3 month ? And most of them don't even have the merit to bypass the "moral codex" law of "not showing too much skin" as the older one did ;).

"The guy's an [evil] evolutionist and there's nothing in the course about Creationism!"

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

It's a classic example of propaganda vs science.

And the actors have only done minor roles in minor pictures. This is one movie that will not be coming to a cinema near most of you any time soon.

It will be coming to a church basement near you.

I think that they've had their thunder stolen by the extremely similar God's Not Dead, starring Hercules, Superman and a bigot that wants to be in ZZ Top.

Give a fundy an HD camera and thats what you get.
But ya knows what, anybody can get a camera and tell the story they want to tell.

How is it possible to oppress something that cannot be shown to exist at all?

Move to move to Religion...

I think the idea behind "evolution oppresses the soul" is that it somehow devalues it, makes us less than human and more like animals. What's funny to me is that the same folks who get offended by being told they are no more than animals seem to positively get high on being told that they're born no more than worthless sinners, and only merit grace by grovelling to the god who made them that way to begin with.

What does the existence or non existence of a soul have to do with evolution? If humans even animals have a soul it does not disprove evolution. We have all, clearly, evolved (except for Neanderthalis fundyitis).

One might consider at which point in our evolution nature decided to include the "soul"... as there is no evolutionary advantage having or not having one.

[unsourced] Perhaps a desire to imagine that one could see "the fruits of their labor" would encourage them to build something that would outlast them? Thus making survival after death mandatory. Something along those lines, maybe.[/unsourced]

I can't imagine why nature would include a soul; but I can think of lots of reasons why men might imagine they had one (and advantages some would gain by selling the idea to others).

True. If you have a product to "sell" that requires no labor, no resources, and not much in the way of facilities you have a ton on overhead.
