Everone tells me IE sucks, so...

as far as I know Opera isn't free.
Dude, Opera has been free for years.

Almost anything is better than IE, really. Firefox is still my favourite because of all the extensions, but Chrome is decent, and Opera is solid as well. Safari sucks, but it's still not as worthless as IE.

With IE you have one button to press for bookmarks. From that you need to put in all your favorites. You can create folders for the top level, but with Safari you can put a group of folders on top of the page.

You can do that in both IE8 and FF.

My Fox has dozens of folders full of bookmarked web pages. You can import and export your favorites too from one PC to another. Said favorites can be sent by email as an HTML file.

If you like a add on but it causes problems with other functions, you can disable your add on until you need it, enable it, then disable it again. I do this with among others the Price Trace Toolbar which I don't use often.

With Safari you can import and export favorites. Even better you can do it between Safari and Chrome. As it is just a file after it is exported, you can do anything with that file you can do with any other file, like send it via e-mail.

Are you saying you can't do this with Firefox or IE?

I've used K-Melon for some time but switched when YouTube changed to a new format which this browser didn't handle well. There are a number of other websites which did not display properly with K-Melon I'm now using Chrome these days because I'm reasonably confident that it's compatible with YouTube. They are both owned by Google, you know.
Chrome could be slow so it is recommended that users go into "options" and UNCHECK
"Use DNS pre-fectching to improve page load performance" because that feature does not work as intended and only slows things down.

I made some web pages and tested them with IE and they were fine but my friends that were using Firefox couldn't open the large pictures. I tested Firefox and got the same results and had to resize the pictures. A web developer also said that Firefox doesn't handle the dividers on pages well at times IE started to have a lot of vulnerabilities and took a while to load so I tried Chrome and haven't looked back since.

I think Microsoft is now trying to trim down to Chrome's speed. I keep my Chrome page free of all the add ons.

Try Chrome as it's fast and easy to install.

Does Safari/Chrome/Firefox have a bookmark/history/cookie etc. synchroniser yet? That is one of the features that has kept me on Opera - I use a variety of PCs and devices and being able to have the same set of bookmarks etc. whichever device I'm on saves me a lot of time and effort.

As I said above you can export and import your bookmarks (otherwise known as favorites). I cannot see how you can do the same with cookies and history in Safari. This is a manual process not an automatic one.
