Wow, as nutty as Glenn Beck is, even he hasn't gone down the birther rabbit hole. To put it succinctly, Beck thinks the birthers need to "shut up" :D

‘Stop With the Damn Birth Certificate!’ Beck Delivers Strong Message to Birthers
... Beck made it quite clear on radio today when he delivered a message to those who do question the president’s citizenship.

“Stop with the damn birth certificate!” he said. “Stop!” According to him, it is a non-issue that only detracts from the real problem in America, which is progressives fundamentally transforming America.

“If you’re going to lose your country– we’re going to lose it on a birth certificate?” he asked. “You have a real opportunity to talk about American exceptionalism … instead you’re going to waste time on the birth certificate?”

“You’re out of your mind if you think that is a winning argument for the next election. You’re out of your mind. You have to go fight the battle on the principles of America!”

Beck said he doesn’t think Obama is a “Manchurian candidate,” and reaffirmed his belief that the president was born in America. ...

Ah, I love it when the crazies start to eat each other :popcorn1

Meh. Not really impressed. It's only because he's lowered our expectations so much to begin with that admitting the obvious truth actually raises one's opinion of him a bit.

Don't get me wrong, my opinion of Beck is still about as low as a snake's belly. I just get a kick out of seeing one conspiracy-mongering nut call out other conspiracy-mongering nuts :)

Billo also put the smack down on a bunch of different claims about both of the Obamas on his show recently. Just goes to show, you can push the crazy train down the hill pretty easy, stopping it once it gains momentum is a whole nother story.

I also like how Beck's motivation for trying to stop the birther crazy train is along the lines of "you fools, you're going to cost us the election!!!"

I think the GOP is starting to regret having encouraged the whack-a-loons :)

He's right on that, too.

And I for one am going to point at the nutballs repeatedly during the campaign season.

So, with him and Mitt Romney, we have how many right-wing celebrities who have stated they disagree with the Birthers? Two?

Ann Coulter too. You know a right-wing theory is nutty when even that harpy denounces it. She does however claim it's Liberals who keep the birth certificate nuttiness in the news to make Conservatives look bad. Yes, because all those state legislators who have authored, sponsored and voted for the birther bills running across the nation were Democrats... o wait.

Hold up, everyone. He just said it wasn't a winning argument. He in no way indicated that it was a false statement, or that Obama was legally the president, or that birthers were wrong.

So he's still crazy. And the OP was misrepresenting his comments.

The OP's article said that Beck believes Obama was born in the US. Also, from The Blaze article:

As Mediaite notes, he has been denouncing the movement since 2009. In addition, he and his co-hosts often make fun of the idea by joking that it’s just as legitimate to say the president may have been born in Newfoundland.

I take this to mean that Beck thinks Obama was born in the US. I may be wrong - heck, I was going to post something similar to what you posted - but I think he wants nothing to do with the birther ideology because he doesn't agree.

Remember that Beck's opinion changes depending on his employment. Remember when he slammed US health care when he worked for CNN? The same health care he later called "the best in the world"?

I was just going to say: Anything that gets him air-time is good; anything that will jeopardise that is bad. So if he is seen to be publicly on the birther crazy-train then that is "bad", so he wants to be sure everyone knows he is not riding in their caboose.

Reminds me of when I was noting that even Richard C. Hoagland thinks we landed on the Moon and Phil Plait pointed out he thinks that because if we didn't the "crystaline structure photos" from the Apollo missions he bases a large part of his CT on would have been fakes too.
