Eternal Earthbound Pets saves pets after the Rapture. Is it a scam?

But if the JREF welches then there are legal procedures in place to ensure they cough up.

If the atheists left the pets to die, who would sue?

Even if nobody could sue it wouldn't follow that offering the service was illegal. Why should it?

It would be illegal to offer and charge for the service if the provider of the service could not meet his obligation under the conditions set forth in the contract.

Whether they want to meet their obligations is irrelevant, unless you are proposing we should start punishing thought crimes. It only matters if they would perform the services. (And they would not if they could not, naturally!)

Reading the website, however, I can only conclude that these people do not have any intention of providing the services they offer. I would expect a lot more paperwork for legitimate offer of this kind. (Like, ensuring that there's a way in the premises, giving a timne window in which animals will be resued - say within 48hrs after the rapture, etc.) as well as a statement about what will happen to the animals once they have been rescued, etc.)

So, if this is a hoax, its not very well done, if it is not a hoax I wouldn't truist these people with my pets.

Not only would they save your pets, but loot your house! They have a ready made list of who won't be returning!

Where do I cash in on this sweet deal? I'll take care of someones pets. Not like any court could convict me. lol
Xian-"I gave this man $110.00 to take care of my pets!"
Me-"No...you gave me $110 to take care of your pet if you were taken by the rapture in 10 years. It's all in the fine print..."
Judge-*Looks at Xian like he is insane after reading paper*
lol

I dunno...because the rest of us have some semblance of integrity?

Could be wrong; YMMV.

Integrity for what? These are people who honestly believe that their god is going to snatch them up at some unknown time, and this service is provided to ensure that if that actually happens their pets don't get abandoned. Unless the "integrity" you speak of is some kind of obligation to convince such people out of this belief-- in which case I definitely do not share that "integrity"-- then I see nothing whatsoever wrong with offering that service despite not at all sharing anything even remotely similar to such a belief. In fact, the only "integrity" problem I can think of with regard to it is if someone honestly believes it's their responsibility to do absolutely nothing at all that would be taken as acceptance of the belief, and in optimal conditions to actually do something that would encourage not holding that belief.

Is that the integrity you're referring to? Because if that's the case, then no, I don't share it. If it's something else, feel free to explain if you'd like.

Right. What you need is a third party doing the verification with a large benefit for finding failures, and a big insurance company to back the whole thing.

Then of course you have the old problem: "What if the rapture already happened but nobody noticed, or if it happens in the future, will anybody notice?" If one or two clients turn up missing at the same time, should we assume the rapture had occurred? What are the criteria?

Rapture-As outlined in the book series. Left Behind
And since it's totally not gonna happen I don't think I have to worry about it. lol

It depends on the people who would buy rapture pet insurance. Would making the thing iron clad increase the number of dupes you could wrangle? Would it decrease the number of refund requests and lawsuits in the future?

The integrity that, if it is present, disallows us from taking advantage of other peoples' delusional vulnerability for our own profit. Once again, YMMV.

Since I don't see it as a "delusional vulnerability" I'd wager that it doesn't apply to me. I have no stake one way or the other in their belief, so considering it a vulnerability based on a delusion feels too much like I'm taking a stake in it. Stores all over the country sell gifts at Christmas-time for little kids under the impression that Santa is going to bring them something, and I see this as being not dissimilar in nature-- I'm not concerning myself with propagating or dissuading the belief, but if they believe it strongly enough to invest in a market based on it, that's a choice they have.

I see. Well, if you are conveniently one of those few non-Christians who doesn't believe that Christian's beliefs are untrue/unfounded/unreasonable/illogical in some way, then I suppose that no, it wouldn't take a lack of integrity on your part to engage in such a business.

If, however, one believes that Christianity is an incorrect/unreasonable/irrational belief (as the entrepreneur in the article linked above does), then engaging in such business is indeed illustrative of a lack of integrity.

Somehow "Hi I'm stupid enough to pay for Pet Rapture insurance." doesn't seem like it would hold up very much in the court of law. The fact is if some people are stupid enough to be that taken advantage of they deserve it.

It would if you can show that the provider had no intention or capability of following through with the agreement should the rapture occur. "The rapture is Christian mumbo-jumbo that will never happen, so we don't need that capability", though, will not hold up in court.

If I didn't have ethics, I'd be a very wealthy woman...

Materialism is a Sin, when they got their stuff looted they have no materialism anymore and have one sin less to worry about, and this service is provided for free.

I seem to recall a business that would offer to buy your house dead cheap - but it would pay you now and only take the house 10 years from today (or something like that.)

The argument was that if you firmly believed the rapture to be immanent you would simply not need your house 10 years down the road, yet you could use the money now to convert people e.g.

Look into the great disappointment.
