Eric Cantor loses primary

Yea another almost sure win for the Dems.

1) either a dem will pick up the seat
or
2) if he gets elected he will be another useless wind bag for the tea baggers and will just fracture the right even more further demonstrating how far off the rails the right has gone from reality.

win win

win win

The Dems didn't put up a candidate in the primary I don't think because Cantor was a lock. Can they put one on the ballot now?

All I can say is a couple dog metaphors come to mind.

Anyone heard about this?

06/06/2014 9:02 pm EDT Note the date.

Former congressman Ben Jones (D-Ga.), better known as "Cooter" from Dukes of Hazzard, has a plan to knock Eric Cantor out of the House. He's urging his fellow Democrats to cross over and vote for a tea party-backed candidate in Virginia's primary election.
Cooter, who ran against Cantor in 2002, has penned an open letter calling upon Democrats in his former Virginia district to vote in the open primary next Tuesday for tea party opponent Dave Brat in order to defeat U.S. House Majority Leader Cantor.
I don't seem to hear any of the talking heads referencing this plot which could be the reason for Cantor's demise.

So Eric Freaking Cantor is now too moderate for the crazy that has enveloped the GOP.

Eric Cantor spent over a million bucks to cast himself as the True Conservative in the race. His liberal opponent is a college professor! And he's worked with Democrats!

And no one bought it, so it's Teabaggers all the way down! Geronimo!!!

Just about ends any possibility of immigration reform while the Republicans are in power.

If it's true that crossover Democrats are what did it, it seems like it might be a pyrrhic victory.

If your goal is to maximize the chances that a Democrat might win, there's a logic to it. But if your goal is to get something like immigration reform passed, it does more harm than good toward achieving that goal. Republicans will be twice shy about offering any compromise on immigration reform now.

Signs in his district on the freeway calling him a socialist.

"...I fell into a burning ring of fire,
I went down, down, down as the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire..."

Of course nobody bought it. The ad is as insulting to the viewer as it is amateurish, and after watching it I can't imagine that anyone would elect Eric Cantor town dogcatcher.

Which is mostly a short-term benefit to those who need a strong turnout in the midterm elections in order to keep bills like immigration reform alive beyond the midterm elections.

Eric Cantor got outmaneuvered by Cooter?!
I don't think so. While VA is a open primary state, Brat won in a highly red district where Dem voters don't have much say. Also, this was not a squeaker; Brat opened a can of whupass on him. A few crossover votes didn't do that.

As noted up-thread, immigration reform is dead. It will be fun to see what the Dems do in reaction to this.
