An excellent point. How can the 'no sex' rule partly define engagement when it's already in place before the couple get engaged?

We are talking about what is in place during engagement.

We are talking about what is in place during engagement.

But if it is also in place before the engagement, then it is not really a defining feature of engagement. Rather, it is a defining feature of not being married.
