• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Empirical Proofs of reincarnation.

Except that they aren't.

Of course, anyone reasonable understands that embellishment of anecdotes is almost de rigueur. But Buddha managed to find the wictionary definition, which seems to imply that anecdotes must be factually true, and then quite openly used it as supporting evidence.

...I didn't try to falsify anything because I think that Popper's doctrine is garbage.

[facepalm]

I know! He brought Popper's into the discussion and as he entangled with that it became increasingly wrong. Now it's just garbage.

It's like the chubby kid who does badly at sports and says "nobody can do well with this ******* ball in this ******* playing field".

And someone who has a native command of English, which I doubt Buddha has.

Let's also not forget the circularity that's crept into his proof. The case studies aside from "Natasha" rely on a technique that purports to recover memories past lives. Thus a premise to his proof is, "There exists a technique that can recover memories from past lives." Antecedent to that, however, is "There exist past lives." Which, of course, is the thing he's trying to prove. Not empiricism so much as deus ex machina.

So I ask him what he did to validate this method. And his answer is to hurl more invective at poor Karl, who really doesn't deserve any of it.

Our toddler has a made-up word for 'thumb'; she calls it 'pannemond'.

Now I realize that she is a reincarnated French person and it's 'panne mond'. She is giving 'world failure' the thumbs up.
It's Peenemunde. You got yerself a German.

Today I empirically determined that my husky/Aussie mix dog was in construction in a previous life. When I ask about past lives, she clearly says “roof”. If I delicately inquire as to how she died, she plaintively emits a “falling from a high place” howl of “ahrooooo”. It’s all clear as day to me now. Tomorrow we will try to determine the reasons for her return in canine form, and whether that constitutes a step up or a step down. Stay tuned!

I do not want to be offensive, but I just cannot resist saying this -- even former believers in graphology do not look terribly smart to me.

Many people might say the same about Scientology.

Or creationism.

Or reincarnation.

Come to think of it ...

I have known a couple of cats who acted like dogs because they wagged their tails, played fetch, come when called, and drink out of the toilet.

Maybe these cats were actually dogs in a previous life.

I am going to reply to several posts at once. Several opponents criticized my usage of the phrase “open mind”. Well, anyone who has an open mind could use the past lives recall procedure to see that, most likely, he/she had a past life, although this may not necessarily be the case –according to Buddha, some people do not have past lives. The procedure in its original form is presented in the book, Buddhist Scriptures, written by Conze. In its original form the presence of a counselor is not required, anyone can run it on himself, so this is not a “guided meditation”. I tried the procedure on myself and it worked for me.

I didn’t find an Internet reference to the ABC special on past lives that I mentioned in my post. However, I found something else, also on ABC website.

Dr. Brian Weiss is featured in a Huffington Post article. He uses hypnosis to help his patients recall their past lives.
