A bitter Sir Elton John thinks America's sexism may be sinking his friend Hillary Rodham Clinton.

John, a knighted British subject, said that gender discrimination is behind Clinton's problems in the polls as he addressed 5,000 Clinton supporters at Radio City Musical Hall last night in an event that raised $2.5 million for the cash-strapped campaign.

"I never cease to be amazed by the misogynistic attitudes of some people in this country," said John, wearing a spangled black evening coat over a vermilion silk shirt. "I say to hell with them. ... I love you, Hillary, I'll always be there for you."

John's comments echo the former first lady's remarks to National Public Radio Tuesday, when she said there was "a double standard" in media coverage of the race.
More unhinged-left fury at those who disagree. You're not just wrong to be against Clinton; you're evil. Just like anyone who opposes Obama isn't just wrong; he's racist. If the Dems talk this way about each other, who are the rest of us to disagree?

Moving on. Anyone know how much Clinton's campaign paid Sir Elton for his appearance and support? Non-citizens are prohibited from making campaign contributions, in cash or in kind, and performing at a fund-raiser certainly qualifies as an in-kind contribution. I'm sure Clinton's campaign would never want to accept illegal contributions.

Elton John totally copied REO Speedwagon. They thought America was misogynistic decades ago.

Sorry. Had to be done.

It is interesting that Hillary is called a "bitch" so often though. I do think some people oppose her merely because she is a uppity woman. Even some of my Democrat friends have used the term bitch or hag to describe her. It kind of shocked me. You don't see those sort of epithets being used against Barack or McCain. No comments at all about thier looks. Yet for Hillary it is approaches acceptable to denigrate her looks.

Interesting. I've never heard her described as 'hag'. Bitch, yes. Ballstomper and dyke, yes. Hag, not so much.

Nixon was routinely called a 'bastard' and I think that's fairly synonymous with 'bitch' for males. Had Ford not pardoned him, I'm sure he'd have been someone's bitch for a few years at least...even though he was an old hag. Hell, Libby would have done him at least once.

In real life, I have heard, lets see . . . , NOBODY call Hillary a bitch. Nobody in real life has commented about her looks. What I have heard is conversations about policy and voting records.

%&$heads on the internet, $#&@wads on talk radio - yes, but real people with real lives, not at all.

Dear Elton John: I don't like your music. This has nothing to do with your sexuality, as I am not homophobic. It has everything to do with the fact that your songs are cheesy, boring, ham-fisted approximations of music.

Dear Hillary Clinton: I will never vote for you. The fact that you are female has no bearing on this. My decision was made because you lie so much I can't take you seriously, and based upon your time in the Senate, I doubt you have the capacity for real leadership.

As someone who tends to vote Democrat, it embarrasses me when those on "my team" use ridiculous arguments like these. But to be fair, the Left isn't the only side to spout this kind of nonsense.

The message you're meant to take away from listening to Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity: If you criticize President Bush, it must be because you hate America. There's no way you could have legitimate complaints regarding his policies on education, foreign relations, torture, tax breaks, the war in Iraq, etc. You simply hate America.

Good post. I would add that this sort of thing gives idiots the opportunity to paint "the left" with a broad brush, and other idiots eat it up.

There's a reason a wise man once said, "The eleventh commandment is, 'Thou shalt speak no ill of a fellow Republican.'"

Cello Man, as I pointed out in another thread, this isn't about Republicans saying ugly things about Democrats, or vice-versa. This is about Democrats saying ugly things about each other. Keep saying them often enough and you may persuade a lot of undecided voters that they're true - and watch them go and vote for McCain.

And you have to ask how many people of your own party, who might otherwise vote for your candidate on the issues, will stay home election day because they were told just once too often they were racists or sexists, by people from their own party?

That wise Republican, BTW, was Ronald Reagan, who knew a little bit about winning elections. Somewhere, today, he's smiling.

By his own standards, doesn't the fact he's not supporting Obama make him a racist?

Perhaps when her campaign finally dies, he can rewrite Candle In The Wind one more frickin' time.

Elton John is a Democrat?

Anyway, he has a point. There are those with gender issues that will shy from Hillary and those with race issues that will shy from Obama. In the primary election this will not cease to be a problem, but I get the feeling that the racial issue isn't as big as the gender issue because a lot of the gender issues manifest as an apparent personality problem that only under scruitiny proves to be a result of a gender based double standard. While for the most part the racial issue is more straightforward and easier analyzed.

Calling it misogyny oversimplifies the problem, and is quite unhelpful.

True. Everyone else mentioned the point of Elton John being British, but since the larger issue is Obama vs. Clinton supporters, your point stands. I guess what I'm trying to get at is that after years of illogical attacks from the talking heads on the conservative side, we Democrats are using the same nonsense tactics to tear each other apart. That bothers me.

Good stuff! Very dramatic work, that.
