Electronic Mosqitoes Repellent

Re: Re: Re: When does a female mosqitoe turns blood thirsty?

It wasn't obviously to me mating must happen before eggs can be layed.

Won't the mosqitoes lays unfertilised eggs?
At least I understand that hens continue to lay eggs whether they mate or not.

But then I found this . ..

Insemination

Seaton and Lumsden (1941) stated that though Marchoux et al. (1903) and Howard et al. (1912) thought that previous fertilization stimulated the "desire for blood" of Ae. aegypti, they could find no evidence for this in their study. However, the chamber used by Seaton and Lumsden was rather small (7.75 cm x 3.25 diameter) and thus flight behavior was not examined. Thus, close-range feeding behavior may be available while the initiation of long-range flight behavior may be inhibited.

Terzian and Stahler (1949) correlated the percent of An. quadrimaculatus feeding on a chick in a 12 x 12 x 12 inch cage with the percent of the mosquitoes in the cage composed of males. Virgin females never took a blood meal. This supports the hypothesis that take-off or host-seeking behavior is inhibited until a substance is transmitted to the female during mating.

What is Balkan Sobranie?
Does it do a fair job repelling mosqitoes or attracting them?

It's a pipe tobacco. My dad preferred Gold Block. It seemed to work pretty well - I assume it just masks your attractants, rather than actually repelling the beasties.

Well, it repelled me , but anything (including CS gas) is preferable to bl**dy midges.

I understand the one thing guaranteed to discourage midges, is bright, direct sunlight.

This is not much help in Scotland.
