Egyptian Women Protestors Beaten

"10-strong mob of Egyptian male soldiers viciously beat up a woman protester in Cairo and as the woman lay helplessly on the ground her shirt is ripped from her body and a man kicks her with full force on her exposed chest.

Moments earlier she had been struck countless times in the head and body with metal batons, not content with the brutal beating delivered by his fellow soldier, one man stamped on her head repeatedly.

She feebly tried to shield her head from the relentless blows with her hands.

Mona Seif, an activist who was briefly detained Friday, said she saw an officer repeatedly slapping a detained old woman in the face.

'It was a humiliating scene,' Seif told the private TV network Al-Nahar. 'I have never seen this in my life.' "

Not so much the Egyptians, it is Egyptians who are doing the preaceful protests for the democracy they want. Those behind the violence are the military and police, who want things to stay the same, a transition of power from Mubarak to them.

The word he used was culture not race. They are distinctly different terms.

I am pretty certain that I said nothing (and had nothing to say) about race.* I said culture. I trust you are aware the two are not the same thing. Luckily I am.

Their culture is (at least on the side we are seeing right now) acting in a primitive, non-law/constitutional law style like the US, England, Japan, etc. tend not to do. Thus, primitive. YMMV.


* and I do you the courtesy of assuming you are aware that race is essentially a very minor distinction bsed on two chemicals the body needs of which one breaks down with too much sun and the other forms with sufficient sun - thus a need for skin darkness/lightness based on latitude (amount of sunlight) received. The fact that the Egyptian military has essentially taken over right where Mubarak left off and is undercutting the protests (even arresting and prosecuting protesters for basically plotting against the state) has been something of deep concern there.

Even the Islamists aren't happy about it, though typically the Brotherhood's statements have been pretty weaksauce.

Meanwhile, things are getting worse in Egypt, as protesters there are reacting angrily to what happened to the woman in question, with security forces not only apparently targeting women protesters, but using live ammunition on the crowds in Tahrir Square. There are at least 13 dead and 700 injured.

The military, of course, blames the protesters for using "excessive force" against the poor security forces.

Guys, this is an internet site and there is limited time and space - my concern culturally is the one causing the problem - and, since it is the one in charge it gets my commentary. And I consider that culture to be primitive.

I would love to see them actually doing that - grenades, .50 snipering, flame throwers/molotov cocktails (shotgun launched Che style)....
