Well, did my shopping this AM and checked how much eggs cost. Bear in mind that this is at M&S and they are more expensive than most.

Large free range - £4 for 12
Large free range organic - £4 for 6
Duck eggs - £3.30 for 6

Local corner shop probably a bit cheaper, as would be the Co-Op.

Probably a bit of both. I don't know whether any buy eggs on contract on a "future" basis. Maybe some of the big boys do.

Bought 15 large eggs at a local store in rural Santander, Colombia, yesterday for 6400 pesos. That´s just under $1.60 USD making those delicious eggs just over a dime each.
