Edward Snowden Triple Agent

"In a statement Thursday, the NSA said the e-mail exchange it released was the only communication found and there was no evidence Snowden followed up.

"We have searched for additional indications of outreach from him in those areas and to date have not discovered any engagements related to his claims," the statement said." -- http://edition.cnn.com/2014/05/29/politics/snowden-nsa-email/

Either the NSA is lying here or Snowden was lying, or didn't use emails. There is a possibility that Snowden was lying about how easy it has been to get hold of documents about secret NSA operations. Is that really true? I doubt it. I think somebody gave him all that sensitive information.

He was a mole from UK's GCHQ and the Guardian paper had double agents who were his handlers.

Point of order: the NSA does not report to the CIA any longer, as any role the CIA may have had in overseeing the other intelligence agencies went to the wayside when the ODNI was formed. NSA reports directly to the ODNI like all the other intel agencies; they also fall under the Department of Defense and as such are answerable to them. Otherwise, your post is spot on.

My bad.

I forgot about the switch. I wrote an essay for college pointing out that the US already had an intelligence clearing house in the CIA. I really don't spend a lot of time thinking about this stuff.

If Snowden had such low credentials then how do you think he got hold of all the sensitive information about the NSA? The CIA (or someone else) gave it to him!

No, the problem with NSA is that once you're on the other side of the fence you're sort of in the club. Everyone assumes you've been vetted during your security clearance background check.

Snowden fixed computers when they got stuck, and he simply stole passwords. I know this because he's said so. nine years ago there was a great story in the WaPo about the military finding stolen thumb drives for sale in Afghan and Iraqi market places containing sensitive, and even classified information on them.

To bottom line it for you: Snowden is a classic case of "The Butler did it."
