Dumbest Suggestion for handling the Shutdown

Well, it's still going to be an ugly filing season. Normally, the call center folks would be training up some seasonal employees to handle the calls. That's not likely to happen, and if we double dip on the furloughs, good luck to anyone who needs help from a human. Call early, have a speakerphone or headset handy as you will be waiting.

Even the seasonals who handle the returns may not get trained up / called in / hired. Considering the changes to the tax law and forms, everyone is going to need some additional training on the 1040 line.

But yes, it's going to be ugly in submission processing.

Have they at least decided what the new tax laws actually mean yet or is that still up in the air as well?

What puts this one over the edge is that Trump, twice, made the claim you need ID to buy stuff at grocery stores.

So you need ID to buy stuff there, but they'll just give you food for free. Yeah that tracks.

It does though! You need ID to qualify for food stamps because only citizens get food stamps, then you have free money that you can only use at grocery stores!

I think we need a thread about the dumbest suggestion on how government employees should handle the shutdown.

So far, we've seen various ideas floated by Trump and/or members of his administration... take out a mortgage, get free food, etc. We've also seen people suggest they should be happy to sacrifice themselves. For the most part, those suggestions show how out of touch Trump and his minions are regarding how the average person lives.

So what do people think is the dumbest idea that's been floated?

I remember hearing a news story fairly early quoting Trump as saying the federal employees impacted were all Democrats anyway. Well, they probably are now, even if the weren't before.

I thought they were volunteering to work for free because of their love and loyalty for Trump.
