"Draw Mohammed Day" is May 20

Well, at the risk of standing against the whole community again, I have to sincerely ask if there is anything constructive that comes out of this.

It's clearly a provocative action. I mean, I see that people all over the web are spinning it one way or another, but it takes some extreme naivety to think that this won't also anger some more moderate, middle of the road Muslims folk.

And for what? Does this sort of thing actually convert any Muslims away from their faith? Or convince them that it's wrong or stupid? I highly doubt it.. at least not anywhere near as many as will be offended.

...

I'm more concerned that such activity will be seen as deeply disrespectful even to the most kind, moderate of Muslim people. And I don't see any positive gain in doing so..

I just think this is immature and will serve NO good at all (and may even serve to cause harm).
Can you explain how you manage to not offend any group ever, or, why this one group matters when those you didn't mind offending apparently did not?

"Deeply offended" is somewhat manufactured. Did you see the link to the page with all the images of Mohammed over the centuries drawn or painted BY MUSLIMS?

It seems the event went by without riots.

Or did I miss the news?

I'd say that's a step in the right direction, attenuating the outrage so the nonsense stops.

Here's why "Draw Mohammed Day":
Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

And now it seems as if the Pakistanis are going to put Zuckerberg on trial for all of this.
Amazing how the "extreme fringe" of Islam always seems to rise to the top of the political ladder in Muslim countries, isn't it? How do they do that with no popular support?

Well, at least their trying to use seemingly legal means to execute him, that's progress isn't it?

Gee, WC, and how do you view the current extreme right rising to the top of the Republican ladder? Just curious given your comment.

Because extremists terrorize and strong arm their way to the top of every organization?

It's like when you get political demonstrations. Watch the news and it looks like the people want cheese hats for everyone, but then you realize that it's only 10,000 who really really want cheese hats, whereas the 10,000,000 who don't simply aren't motivated enough to protest.

Nutters care more.

The gifted artist is alive and well, thankfully. But on the insistence of top security specialists at the FBI, she is, as they put it, "going ghost": moving, changing her name, and essentially wiping away her identity. She will no longer be publishing cartoons in our paper or in City Arts magazine, where she has been a regular contributor. She is, in effect, being put into a witness-protection program—except, as she notes, without the government picking up the tab. It's all because of the appalling fatwa issued against her this summer, following her infamous "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" cartoon.

Shoulda stuck to making fun of Jesus.

I still maintain Muslims should let Allah murder his own political enemies. No need to help an infinitely powerful and kind being, is there?

Is there?

That's how Salman Rushdie died...

... so let that be a warning to all unbelievers.
