Dragon Con 2014

Wish I could go! But I do plan to be there next year.

A buddy of mine runs the puppetry track. Last year they had a couple of the performers and puppets from Fraggle Rock.

This year I know they were working on getting Rygel from Farscape, but it was looking a bit expensive. They'll at least have some folks from the Henson Creature Shop Challenge and a bitching puppet slam. I highly recommend the slam to folks who've never seen one.

Oooo! Good idea! Puppet slams would probably have more socks in them than poetry slams!

I murdered them.
Join us for Dragon Con, then. Perhaps you can help the X Track (I assume they still have that) talk to their spirits! I would be really cool if they could finger you as the one behind their demise.

Added myself:

Haven't decided on the Star Party yet.

I hear Maximus will be arriving too late for the party, so I put him down as a "No" for it. But, he would otherwise have loved to join it, I'm sure.

I know you meant it light heartedly, but that's like someone hearing about a skeptics event and saying it will be full of climate change deniers and vaccine "skeptics".

For those attending DragonCon, take note that the Smartphone app was updated yesterday and now has pretty complete schedule information. So you can start planning your weekend by logging in and bookmarking sessions. Visit this web page with a browser or your smart device, and there is a button that will let you download the native app.

Skeptrack has its own page at Lanyrd as well, if you just want to browse the skeptic speakers with rich links to their prior appearances and work (books, videos, podcasts, etc). It has a full schedule as well, but just for Skeptrack of course.

Updated my info a little, because I know every single of you, on this forum, cares about it, very much!

I don't really participate in the JREF forums, but I know various people from the IRC channel. I've been at DragonCon for the last 3 years and I've really enjoyed it. Maybe this year I'll get to know some of the skeptic folk.

FWIW, my solution to the various issues with lines getting longer for panels - is to skip the celebrity panels. There's so much interesting stuff going on every hour that it makes no sense to me to spend a slot standing in line.

Since you don't post here, often, I would like to politely remind you to remove the QUOTE tags whenever you update a table.

Also, since this a thread started by Wowbagger, it would also be nice to see your name in its proper alphabetic order spot. I know we can sort it by clicking the header. But, Wowbagger is a lazy man.

I assume most folks reading this thread are gadget users and may need to use the hotel WiFi while at DragonCon. This morning I posted the 2014 update of my DragonCon WiFi survey. More info than you could possibly want about where, how and how cheaply to access the Internet while at the convention.

Enjoy, and let me know if I missed anything.

Updated table, since sowellfan won't do it.

Also, I keep forgetting to mention, every year, that the Star Party is a charity event! They're raising money for various things: Alzheimer's, cancer research, CosmoQuest, etc. in honor of Jeff Medkeff, a communicator of astronomic sciences.

I'm putting that there, so I won't forget next year.

Enjoy, and let me know if I missed anything.
Very cool.

Wowbagger, if you go as Arthur Dent will you amuse us all by insulting yourself?
I already insulted Arthur Dent twice, by accident. (Damn time travellers tend to mess up my list!) But, I suppose I could do a re-enactment of the first insult for some of you.

I could even dress as a half-Arthur/half-Wowbagger hybrid, and have one half of myself insult the other. Then, as the first half walks away, the second half will act all offended, demanding the first to "come back here and say that!"

And then hilarity ensues!

Additional item on the Star Party - you can attend from home!

We're going to have a "virtual star party" during the event using Google Hangouts on Air. This will start at 10 PM Eastern US time on Thursday (02:00 UTC Friday). We'll have several astronomers talking about their work, and possibly some live telescope views. Some of the guests here in Atlanta will hop on.

You can view the invite and mark yourself as attending on Google Plus, or simply open the YouTube box below at the appropriate time and watch right here in the thread. (Right now it just shows a countdown timer to the event).
