Drag Shows!!

I should point out that, strictly speaking, drag queens don't wear women's clothes. The drag they wear is usually designed and made for.them. So they are men's clothes.

I've known several that have said something like "putting on my frock".
In fact that is quite correct

frock
/frɒk/
noun

1.
a woman's or girl's dress:
"her new party frock"
2.
a long gown with flowing sleeves worn by monks, priests, or clergy:
"the chaplain tottered in stiff splendid frocks"

That's sort of one of the points I was trying to make (poorly, I know).

A "dress" becomes "not a dress" when commonly worn by men.

Throughout history men have often worn the most flamboyant clothing.

And, of course, men have dressed as women on stage for centuries.

But, won't we please think of the children!

BTW, my family ate at Hooters several times when I was just a kid. I wonder when that will be outlawed.

Sure sure. And the makeup that minstrel actors used was designed and made for their performance, so it's "white makeup", right?

It sort of follows, too that if a priest can be defrocked, he must have been at some point frocked.

frock (n.)
mid-14c., from Old French froc "a monk's habit; clothing, dress" (12c.), which is of unknown origin; perhaps from Frankish *hrok or some other Germanic source (compare Old High German hroc "mantle, coat;" Old Norse rokkr, Old English rocc, Old Frisian rokk, German Rock "a coat, over-garment"). Another theory traces it to an alteration of Medieval Latin floccus, from Latin floccus "tuft of wool," a word of unknown origin. Meaning "outer garment for women or children" is from 1530s. Frock-coat attested by 1819.

So interestingly, a "frock" was historically a man's garment. Ain't English great?

It's strange that those who say sex is purely biological and binary are the same ones who think that men who don't meekly adhere to a rigid sex based dress code are doing something wrong.

This is a misunderstanding on your part.

Some people who acknowledge that sex is binary and biological ALSO think that sex-based gender roles should be rigidly enforced. Those people are largely religious conservatives.

I don't believe that anyone posting in this or related threads falls into that category.

There are also people who acknowledge that sex is binary and biological, and who think that sex-based gender roles are stupid and we'd all be better off without them. I fall into that category.

The error you're making is in assuming that supporting the eradication of sex-based gender roles in some way implies that one must also support the performative caricature of regressive female sex-based stereotypes by males. I really don't think it implies that in any way whatsoever. In fact, I believe that supporting the eradication of sex-based gender roles should also result in the eradication of male performances based on those regressive stereotypes.

Which of them sound familiar to you? And to whom do they sound familiar?

“There aren’t really any statistics or information out there suggesting this is a problem, but I just have a gut feeling that some facts exist supporting my hatred of drag brunches.”

Sounds familiar to me. It's a standard answer from the right. Election fraud anyone? It's only the single biggest issue tearing this country apart, brought to you by the factless right wing Republicans.

- My feelings are hurt therefore drag shows are bad (this thread).
- I lost so the election must have been rigged (President of the ******* country, a Republican).

So ya, that's all I'm hearing on a lot of issues.
