Dr. Quack on Oprah

You can never take the belief out of people who want to believe nonsense. There is always a certain amount of needing to believe or even lying about believing so as to not alienate friends/family members/the public. The need for acceptance can be overpowering. For some people, though, it is a bit inexplicable how they arrive at their views in light of what they know. Silliness abounds everywhere, my friends.

Well, yes, I was just going to...
I am sorry though. Hadn't even looked at the date. Don't know what came over me. Please forgive.:boxedin:

I'm sorry, I came across as a bit of an ass. I was trying to be funny myself and failed. Please post wherever you like.

Also, feel free to slap me. I promise I won't enjoy it much.:)

People always say, search first, post in existing threads. That was my take on it anyway.
Sadly, not noticing it was old, brightened on seeing Miss Anthrope (who vanished mysteriously) happy she was back. Then checked the dates. Sigh!:(

So, since this thread has been zombied, has anyone looked at Oz's site lately? Today is the first time that I've seen it, and when I searched for acupuncture I found an article that didn't exactly disparage it, but was careful to state over and over that scientific evidence to back it is scarce, it has only been shown to be effective when used in conjunction with conventional methods, etc, etc. Has he possibly reformed a bit?

ROFL, I didn't realize that this was a necro thread when I posted yesterday.

Shows how much I know about Oprah!

Yeah, that's him. The guy on the right of the picture.

Someone on another thread provided a quote that seems appropriate:

Q: What do you call the medical student that graduates at the bottom of his class.

A: Doctor

I am in medical school - and believe me - we all know this joke very well!!!

Just because one goes to medical school, does not mean one is intelligent, or has common sense for that matter.

Trust me, the board exams are very tough, but if you know enough doctors, you know that a lot of them don't seem to know much at all.

I only go to our local health food co-op to buy peanut butter, but on a recent visit happened to wander down the aisle containing shelves filled with various homeopathic nostrums. While I was studying a few, a clerk approached me and asked if I needed help making a selection. So I blurted out, "Why do you sell this crap. It's nothing but water. Expensive water."

"Oh no" she replied, "these have effective and carefully measured ingredients." So I thought I'd try my old, "Do you know what Avogadro's Number is?" I was sure she didn't, but her rejoinder floored me: "Sure I know all about it. I'm a doctor."

Now this young lady was in her very early 20's at best, and was working as a clerk in a health food store, so about all I could do was twitch my eyebrows like Mr. Spock and say, "You're REALLY a doctor?" At that point she confessed that well, she wasn't quite a doctor, just studying to be one in medical school.

I was sorely tempted to ask for the name of her faculty adviser or one of her professors. For sure she wasn't the sort of person I'd like to see get an MD.

Don't worry! :)

Quick note here. Although the concept of meridians in the body are silly. Acupuncture has been proven to relieve lower back pain, although an Advil probally works better.

Don't feel too bad. Dr Oz was on Oprah just the other day -- though my wife says it was a repeat. ;)

So it was! I had forgotten that we're usually two years behind on the Oprah shows in our country. Just 3 weeks ago I saw Jenny McCarthy for the first time on Oprah and I still haven't recovered. Which made me decide never to watch Oprah again.
