Dr. Louis Turi's Predictions

There was a 4.something earthquake off the coast of northern California yesterday, but I'm not sure if Tuesday counts as "the weekend."

Wouldn't that count as a hit? I mean he was only off by 10 days afterall.

Wow, this guy is a dick. That's right, you too can save your child from suicide for just $200 bucks. Don't wait, act now!

Grrrr!

From his site. I apparently can't post URL's until I have 15 posts.

Children Characterology $200 add $10 S&H :

Do not hesitate to invest in your child. You might have given life to a genius or an artist. Find out how and why your child thinks or behaves with you or the world at large.
Find out why your child is the way he/she is. Give him/her the EARLY opportunity to regenerate his/her spirit and get the right direction in life. Let me introduce your star children, as you never knew them before. Do not let the worst of the stars take control over their destiny. In this day and age children need spiritual regeneration more than ever. The sad fact is that over 6000 of them commit suicide every year in the US alone while other children are killing each other in schools. Don't wait until it¹s too late, understand the dilemma from Astropsychology and let Dr. Turi help your child with this service. Your child's future is worth it! I saved many teenagers from suicidal tendencies, gang activity, drug/alcohol addictions and put them right back on the road of health, success and happiness. Save thousands of dollars on wasteful sessions of traditional psychotherapy and years of guilt and sorrow. Do it for his/her birthday and watch the results.

I’ll have to scrounge around for message IDs and such, but Turdi has a huge reputation on Usenet as a ghoul and fraud. At one point we (tinw) got him to admit that his claimed doctorate doesn’t actually exist, and he only uses the title "Dr." beacuse his friends and supporters (all of whom sound suspiciously like Turdi when they write) supposedly call him “Dr.” as a sign of affection and respect.

He’s a despicable human through and through, and has this nasty habit of using high-death-count natural disasters as a pulpit from which to scream about the accuracies of his “predictions”. An old but still accurate summation of this <rule8> can be found here : link

(edit for clarification - I am not the author of the post I linked above)

I found the post where Turi admits he doesn’t have a doctorate

Hi, some of you have asked me and wondered what I am a doctor of. I generally just say, "Doctor of Metaphysics." I use the name "Dr." because I am a healer. I am not a physician nor do I have a doctorate from an accredited medical school. I got my metaphysical Mill Doctorate from the Light Church Institute In Sacramenton [sic], CA. My good friends called me Dr. Turi because of my powerful healing gifts and it stuck. I use that as my professional Stage Name.

Thanks Joe. "Professional stage name"...kind of says it all, doesn't it?

I thought you'd be interesting in seeing Dr. Turi's prices for his readings. After seeing the dollar signs, I'm beginning to look at him with new eyes. He's a savvy businessman, too. He'll only accept credit cards or money orders--no personal checks.

I also came across another website but I can't seem to find the author of the website.

Hardenburgh, I congratulate you for the change of perspective, and also admitting it here.
However, would you consider viewing other claimed psychics with the same 'new eyes', regardless of a price tag? Just because the service is free, doesn't make it legitimate or any less fraudulent. I would hope you would look at the claims made, and any evidence for and against the claims, before you make your mind up.

I know you took a bit of a bash over comments about another psychic, and I wanted to give you credit for seeing that this psychic is a con.

There's quite a bit about this ghoul on the internet, especially on usenet--in groups like sci.skeptic and alt.astrology. Start here:

"Dr." Turi is not actually a real doctor. He usually calls himself either an "MD" for "doctor of metaphysics" or "DDS" for "doctor of divine sciences"--his "doctorate" was bought from a diploma mill for $20 or so.

His usual "spiel" is to a). predict some earthquake of some magniture would occur within some period of time somewhere in an earthquake zone, and b). when an earthquake actually stikes and kills people, he crows: "I PREDICTED IT!!!".

He's a pathetic ghoul and scam artist. By the way, his book "Moon Power Starguide 2002" is the #3,519,007 on Amazon's best-selling list.

I didn't know Amazon HAD that many books.

I need something brain-dead to distract me while I program...I'm going to listen to his 2 hour interview on his methods. If I make it through, I'll report.

The man's MO of implying a lot without actually stating it outright rubs me very much the wrong way. I took two random paragraphs, then quit reading in disgust. From his website (just click on the "Dragon explained" link on the left side) -

Sir Isaac Newton wrote "for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction". We are what we think, having become what we thought.

Quoting out of context and without regard for the fact that Newton was referring to physical forces - check. Where he takes this thought is just plain offensive. Tell that to all the people who try to fight depression by desperately imagining that they are happy and not depressed. Heck, tell that to people who are highly succesful yet believe that they have no qualities that could have lead to such success.

This statement emphasizes that for every thought or action, there will be an effect.

Hmm. What might the effect be of thinking "Turi, you are made of very green, very moldy cheese"?

This is what I call the "Universal Law", the cause and effect of the yin and yang recognized and accepted as the LAW OF KARMA. Modern Astrology classifies the Dragon's Head and Tail as the South and North Nodes of the Moon. To my knowledge, the Moon is, just by herself, quite responsible for the daily fate of the world and directly affects the weather and nature's forces at work.

Recognized and supported by whom? How did you derive your knowledge? And I was unaware that the world had a fate. Or at least, it's doing such a good job of avoiding it that it's not immediately obvious that it has one. Hey, maybe that's why everything in the Universe spins so much!

Obviously, the waxing and waning periods of our closest satellite will produce the daily process of the tides. The lunar cycle is 28 and a half days, which is the same as a woman's cycle.

::sings:: One of these cycles is not like the other, one of these cycles doesn't belong ::stops singing:: Seriously, what about those who have longer, shorter, or just plain irregular menstrual cycles? Are they evil for resisting the influence of the moon?

Thus, women will have a physical and spiritual response
Well, that answers the question right above. After all, what womanly woman wouldn't want to be controlled by the moon instead of herself?

as we all will be responding subconsciously to the word, "LUNATIC".
Including those who don't speak English, apparently.

The scientific community is only aware of tremendous activity in the time of a Full Moon, but they still have no clue as to the tremendous information behind it. The police force and the hospital emergency rooms are also unusually busy at these times.
Bashing the scientific community - check. Presenting urban myth as incontrovertible fact - check (see www skepdic com/fullmoon html)

The Moon's subtle power is not yet understood by the scientific community but is wisely used by the aware farmer. However, many years of tedious observation have shown me that she is undeniably affecting the human psyche and our response to life.
Yes, yes, we get it - "earth wisdom" is the best.

Without opposing forces at work (positive/negative), there would be no reaction, thus, no life possible on both the spiritual and physical planes.
Explain to my poor, weak, and non-earthy mind - when an object hits another object, they are both pushing on each other equally, right? By implication, they are exerting the same kind of force on each other, so which one of them is "positive" and which is "negative"?

Our so-called "dead" satellite is very much alive, and vigilantly observing her whereabouts will make man grow steadfastly into a genius in predictive astrology.
But not woman - she just needs to obediently react to the force the moon exerts on her. And I've got just one last sarcastic question - why aren't all astronomers (who by definition spend more time observing the moon than the average person) predictive astrologers yet?
