The GOP has no interest in "fixing" immigration because...
The US relies on a huge pool of undocumented, cheap, vulnerable labour. Fixing the problem would result in economic chaos.
Immigration, and fear of it, is the gift that keeps on giving for the GOP. If they fix it, they can't use it to terrify the electorate into voting for them. That's why they killed the bi-partisan bill.
It's impossible to fix in any case. There will always be immigrants, legal and illegal so long as the US is a desirable place to live and work and there will always be a large number of people who will blame immigrants for everything and/or fear them regardless of how few or many of them there are.

Fixing the problem would increase labor costs, not sure that counts as economic chaos. And while a lot of the donor class for the GOP doesn't like that idea, GOP voters largely do.
And here we see one of the reasons that the Republican establishment doesn't like Trump nearly as much as GOP voters like him.
If the numbers of illegal immigrants are low (and you haven't actually suggested that this isn't achievable), why wouldn't this be considered fixed?

Trump will have a republican senate and probaly house. They will be very important. To pass his laws. But Trump does not want HIS OWN party approving his cabinet posts. And they will let him. It's the senate's job. But to avoid press and approval and committees interrogating the evil people, Trump will just appoint them. The Senate will just agree and do a 10 day recess end of Jan so Trump can do recess appointments.

Why do you assume this will embarrass Trump? The photos were already out there in the public sphere, this doesn't really change anything. Well, except that it reveals Putin views Trump as an enemy. And we can expect that the feeling will likely be mutual.
By the GOP's reckoning there are 11 million illegal migrants in the US. Many of these are working in low wage sectors. It's not just a blip in labour costs if a significant proportion of the people in the agricultural and care sectors are suddenly unavailable.
Although the stated problem is with illegal immigrants, many who complain about them are simply unhappy about all immigration. If illegal immigration is magically fixed, there are still too many people around with the wrong accent, skin colour, dress code or religious persuasion. That's why IMO the problem is unfixable from a political perspective.

No he didn't. Trump never announced anything of the sort. The Washington Post reported that such a call took place, but that report was based on anonymous sources, not any sort of announcement. The Trump team has officially only stated that "We do not comment on private calls between President Trump and other world leaders."
