Donald Trump to moderate Republican debate

Can something really backfire on trump? As long as something makes people say his name I think he's pretty satisfied, even if it reflects negatively on him.

He has said so in no uncertain terms:

But Trump showed no signs of being fazed by the critique coming at him from all directions.“They’re hacks,” he said of Republicans like Rove, Krauthammer and conservative columnist George Will Tuesday morning. “They don’t speak for anybody. They have no power.”

He added, “All these guys are making the debate hotter. We will get probably the highest ratings of any debate that we’ve had because of all this controversy. It’s a good thing. It’s not a bad thing.”

This may actually help Gingrich a lot in the GOP primaries (and subsequently hurt Romney), but it is going to kill him in the general election. At least, it will if the birther issue comes up, which I fully expect it to given Trump's involvement.

Not only has Gingrich accepted the invitation, he's said nice things about Trump too for good measure.

QUESTION: Mr. Speaker...

(CROSSTALK)

QUESTION: ... GOP presidential candidates.

NEWT GINGRICH, GOP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE/FORMER HOUSE SPEAKER: Of course I want his endorsement.

QUESTION: Did you ask for his endorsement?

GINGRICH: Not yet. He's got to do this debate.

QUESTION: Mr. Speaker, why is it that the GOP presidential candidates all come to see Mr. Trump (INAUDIBLE)

GINGRICH: Why wouldn't you?

QUESTION: Well, I mean, what is it? Is it like an audience?

GINGRICH: No. Look, I -- I think -- some of this -- I want to pick up with something Herman Cain said a while back. Sometimes we have to get a certain sense of humor in politics. "The Donald" has had the number one show in the country, OK? He is a genuine American icon in his own right. Why wouldn't you want to come out and hang out with him?

DONALD TRUMP, TRUMP ORGANIZATION: It was a great honor to have Newt up here. It's amazing how well he's doing and how it's really resonated with so many people.

GINGRICH: Donald Trump is a great showman. He's also a great businessman. If we're trying to figure out how to create jobs, I think one of the differences between my party and the other party is we actually go to people who know how to create jobs to figure out how to create jobs. And so when I was asked whether or not I'd be willing to be in that kind of debate, I automatically said yes.

So, there's no hedging of bets here. Newt's going all in for the Birther vote.

Perfect.

Ron Paul, Jon Huntsman Not Interested in Trump/Newsmax Debate

It's not often I give kudos to Ron Paul, but good for Ron Paul.
I gotta say, my respect for Huntsman is growing. If he had a chance I'd seriously consider my vote for Obama. Of course there is that whole SCOTUS thing. We desperately need to keep the court from sliding further right. I don't know, no great options IMO, but this debate is easy to judge, celebrity apprentice circus.

Birther, if there was ever a reason to wonder if common sense had taken a holiday from the GOP.

A "great businessman?"

The writers of Saturday Night Live all just hi-fived each other. That sketch will write itself.

There's just got to be massive DNC money behind this. Maybe they could have all the candidates and Teh Donald enter by piling out of one tiny car wearing bulbous red noses and size 48 shoes, tripping over their own feet and spritzing each other with seltzer bottles, culminating in a hair-raising chase around the studio, where Rick Santorum appears to be throwing a bucket of water over Newt, but it's actually - - get this,.... a bucket of confetti. Oh, ho ho ha ha ha! What a wonderful time will be had by all! All to Boots Randolph's Yakety Sax, of course.

Your scenario is rediculous...

...they'll clearly be emerging from limos....

(though, perhaps, tiny limos made from VW Beetles or Mini Coopers)

Just take a step back and consider this:

People running for the highest office in the land are seriously praising and seeking the endorsement of a man who repeatedly questioned whether the current President of the United States was actually a citizen of the United States, going so far as demanding to see his birth certificate.

Just extraordinary.

Just another in a long list of evidence supporting the theory that America is going into the crapper.
