I don't understand this at all.
That seems to be a recurring theme for you.
I don't understand this at all.
I don't understand this at all.
Why do philosophy defenders have such an easy time being able to identify what philosophy isn't yet such a hard time explaining or given non-vague examples of what it actually is?
Why do you have such a hard time explaining what science is and isn't?
Don't play that game, please. You posted it and vouched for it.
Ask 2 philosophers, get 2 different answers. Ask 100, get 100. That's the problem. As for definitions, I don't think I need to tell you who defines words.
That seems to be a recurring theme for you.
Take a shot.
I don't. You're just lying to make a fake "tit for tat" point that doesn't exist.
Well then, since you can't do it for science, why do you keep asking the "philosophy defenders" to do it for philosophy?
Yeah, I'm trying to defer to those actually engaged in the practice, and not me?
Are you guys seriously telling me that you can't tell the difference between someone with half a semester of freshman philosophy (which seems to be a lot of what we get here) and an actual philosopher?

I can. I have. Multiple times. In this thread alone. I have put down definition I am comfortable being held to that haven't changed to every five minutes.
Again you're just lying and saying I haven't to maintain trolling.
You're missing the point. At this point I think it's deliberate.
There you go again,
changing to a different question altogether, which has nothing to do with what you quote.
That's a lot of "No true Philosophical Scotsman" there.
I don't understand this at all. Of course we're not practicing philosophy here.
When I babble over on the Sci/Tech forum, am I practicing science?
Take a shot.

Fortunately, scientists don't need you to do this for them. You're relieved of having to carry the burden of defending the practice of any of the natural sciences.
Unless you're attacking the practice of philosophy. And if so? Why?
I've seen you claim that multiple times in this thread alone, but i haven't seen the definition. Why not link it up?
Well then, since you can't do it for science, why do you keep asking the "philosophy defenders" to do it for philosophy?
Because you're a troll and will just pretend to forget it. The thread is still here, any honest agent in the discussion can read it.
Don't you understand that the philosophiles here have expended their entire reserve of benefit of the doubt?
Again your inability to understand that there is more to life than authoritarian arguments by definition is your problem, not mine.
"This is X because Y says so because Y is the keeper of X" is as far as you seem to be able to go mentally.
Things have standards outside of "Because people who do it say so."
No, but at that point the terms would have been intertwined. From the Wiki article:
"Some sources claim the term was coined by Pythagoras (c. 570 – c. 495 BCE),[7][8] others dispute this story,[9][10] arguing that Pythagoreans merely claimed use of a preexisting term."
So, boy, did philosophy begin in 570 BCE, or not? And since it may have been used before, is it easily separable from critical thinking? If anything, using the term critical thinking is more recent.
What you would probably need is a class of people with the time to reflect on such things, and write them down. Literacy wasn't universal, so philosophy as a formal discipline, as going beyond rudimentary reflection, would be a later development.
I'd say close, but other way around. It is not all constructive thought, but constructive thought is one of the central outputs of philosophy. As I've quoted, philosophy is an activity, not a collection of facts. So is science. .
That said, because we lack the expertise, we are wise to defer to it.
