Does anyone know what this is?

Weigh it.
Put it in a measure jar with water to get it's volume.
Then work out it's density.
Do a scratch test to work out it's hardness.
Do a scratch test on ceramic to see what colour the scratch is.
Grind a bit up and burn it in a hot flame to see what elements are in it based on the colour of the flame.

or just give it to someone else to do all this. Like a Geologist.
there's a pile of minerals that have that smooth lumpy look to them.

RH: Is the inclusion the same material as the main blob of material. Is the main blob igneous? It is hard to tell from the photo.

Someone once showed me a 'fossilized baby's foot', it was a fairly decent fossil sponge. Taken fron an area where there are lots and lots of fossils.

A local rock hound would be your best bet. Many times people see things that look like fossils and are not, and without a lot of experience you just can't be expected to tell.

Probably the local library can point you at the local rock and mineral society where they will tell you just what you have there.

Five sides, central knobby thingy, apparent curvature, thumb sized -
Kinda sorta looks like a mangled echinoderm plate.
Part of a sea urchin. Or not.
