Dodd - I did it.

"I was for it before I was against it".

Countrywide Dodd needs to go - now. He's pure slime.

Can you please not lie in the thread title? Please?
Dodd’s original amendment did not include that exemption, and the Connecticut Senator denied inserting the provision.

“I can't point a finger at someone who was responsible for putting those dates in,” Dodd told FOX. “I can tell you this much, when my language left the senate, it did not include it. When it came back, it did.”

“Because of negotiations with the Treasury Department and the bill Conferees, several modifications were made,” Dodd Spokesperson Kate Szostak in a response to FOX Business.

Which would lead to an accurate thread title of

Dodd - I did NOT do it.

Either a deliberate lie, or piss-poor reading here. Given the Senator inserted language that specifically DISALLOWED bonuses of any sort, this sort of smearing is the lowest form of swiftboating. I really hope the slimeballs spreading this rot.

P.S. His rather good amendment ideas:

Dodd Amendment Rules

* Crack down on bonuses, retention awards and incentive compensation: Bonuses can only be paid in the form of long-term restricted stock, equal to no greater than 1/3 of total annual compensation, and will vest only when taxpayer funds are repaid. There is an exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009.
*
* For institutions that received assistance totaling less than $25 million, the bonus restriction applies to the highest compensated employee; $25 million to $250 million, applies to the top five employees; $250 million to $500 million, applies to the senior executive officers and the next top 10 employees; and more than $500 million applies to the senior executive officers and the next top 20 employees (or such higher number as the Secretary determines is in the public interest).

P.P.S.

Kallsop is cheerleading here. Anyone surprised?

Yes, the Republicans have been pushing caps on executive compensation from the beginning, and the Democrats have been fighiting them at every chance.

Or,
"Because of their excesses, very bad things begin to happen, like the United States government telling a company what it can pay its employees. That's not a good thing in America," Kyl told the Huffington Post.

"What executives have done is troubling, but it's equally troubling to have government telling shareholders how much they can pay the executives," said Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL).

Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) said that he is "one of the chief defenders of Obama on the Republican side" for the president's efforts to reach across the aisle. But, said Inhofe, "as I was listening to him make those statements I thought, is this still America? Do we really tell people how to run [a business], and who to pay and how much to pay?"

More simplistic pandering crap.

The bonus restrictions apply only to those companies taking bailout dollars. In essence the feds ARE now shareholders and DO have the right to set pay for executives of thoses companies.

If a company doesn't want to accept executive compensation restrictions, give the bailout money back.
Simple.

Eited to remove post because before I read more than the first few posts, I thought a discussion was about to break out.

The only people who didn't "do it" are the vast majority of the Repubs who voted 'no' on the stimulus package...an "action" I'd be willing to credit them for if they didn't ratify this as their primary ideological stance since Obama took the wheel.

OK, for all you right wingers who think we lefties would make excuses for this kind of thing, I'm here to set that record straight.

This sucks and I hope the Dems punish the jerk and I hope there is a good Democratic contender for Dodd's seat in the next election.

Does anyone even read articles anymore?

Dodd inserted language that SPECIFICALLY DISALLOWED exactly this.

The language received a standard grandfather clause at some point during the Senate-House negotiation.

Why would you blame Dodd for attempting to stop exactly this? I have nothing against attacking democrats for wrongdoing, but doesn't this require a simple check to see if they did some wrong?
