Divorce By Text Message

Yes because we all know that everything crappy in the world that's worth discussing happens in the U.S. And crappy developments in other parts of the world could never affect us here in the U.S. in any way. And it's utterly unimportant for anyone in the U.S. to know about the crappy things that crappy people in other parts of the world do. Because of all the crappy countries in the world, the U.S. is the crappiest.
...And then we accuse you of jingoism for not knowing about anything else that's going on in the world! :D

Fixed it for you. No need to thank me.
There's no need to thank me, because you dishonestly re-wrote my post so that it was the sort of lie you prefer, instead of the reality that I actually posted. Feel free to lie all you want in your posts, to fill your own posts with stupidity and ignorance(not that you've ever needed anyone's permission or prompting) but my posts do just fine with honesty and integrity and don't need any of your special seasoning.

You and a few others here love posting against Muslims for what appears to be no other reason than bigotry. That sort of bigotry against people of differing beliefs and cultures is a trait that Muslim extremists and the Religious Right have in common.

Please remember to be civil and attack the argument, not the arguer.

For anyone who thought sharia law didn't keep up with the times.
Link.

How nice to see Islam embracing the 21st century.

Yeah, great isn't it? I wonder how they'd rule with a (male) gay marriage - are both partners allowed to divorce by means of an SMS? :D

There were a couple of nice comments on that page:
Weirdly, the very formula in Arabic which means "I divorce you" (talat) positively lends itself to text messaging because it is only three letters: t-l-t in written Arabic. It's still rude and uncouth to divorce your wife by text message, and like everything in Sharia law, it would still require two (or four) witnesses to be legally valid - how would texting get around the "witness" requirement?
Interesting point about the witnesses.

And comparing the rudeness of divorce-by-SMS with rudeness in western divorces:
Well, Gingrich delivered divorce papers to his wife in the hospital, and one of Giulliani's wives found out she was being divorced from the news reports. Why, then do we have a problem with texting?

But to get back at your point of "embracing the 21st century": our (western) divorce proceedings aren't quite up to the 21st century either. Why in hell is marriage a formality that can be arranged in no-time, but must the divorce proceedings be a lengthy court case? I can understand that child custody is a thing you want decided by an impartial judge, but for the rest? Split the money up half/half or according to the pre-nup and be done with it. Most people don't have money to speak of anyway.

Interestingly, my country has a loophole in divorce proceedings. As part of the phased introduction of gay marriage, first a "registered partnership" was introduced, open for both gays and heteros, before marriage was opened up for gays. The law allows for a conversion of a marriage to a registered partnership, which is only an administrative formality. And dissolution of a registered partnership is also an administrative formality. So that way, you can get around needing a court case for a divorce.

But some of the f**ktard Xians in the current government want to close that loophole completely.
