What could possibly make you feel so icky? The fact that someone would be so asinine as to believe that NASA would perform nuclear experiments that could threaten our very existence simply because it would look soooo cool? Seems very logical to me, they did kill Kennedy on a "double dog" dare from the CIA after all.

hmm, actually i dont think a death star type weapon would work on a gas giant

see, the death stars laser worked by cracking the planets crust, causing a violent release of internal pressure, which blew the planet part

jupiter has no crust, a super laser would either simply be scattered and absorbed by the dense atmosphere, or just go right though the planet without hurting it
