Did mermen ever really exist?

So... Is this some kind of sly admission that that all those previous threads weren't in good faith either?

Whether that was the intention I have no idea......but it is certainly the outcome, at least from the perspective of those witnessing Vixen's efforts.

Mermaids and Mermen absolutely do exist. I saw this documentary on Discovery that explained the whole thing. Some science team was looking into it, and they found all sorts of evidence. But of course, the powers that be covered it all up as usual.

But here's the kicker - they had a video of some kids finding one on the beach! The authorities got rid of it, of course, but the video got out!

You should watch it. You'd be convinced, it's really amazing. Discovery channel is aces, man.

Was that the documentary with the singing crab and the witch/octopus?

*Shrugs* Mermen is a 1000000% time more likely then "Vague, invisible, giant sky wizard that has a set of rules about how we're supposed to rub our genitals together" and we have to take that second one seriously when someone suggests it.

So, funny though dark story. When I was in the Central African Republic the second time, the "police" had a guy in the "jail" in protective custody. He was a Mbororo who are Fulani cattle herders and not a regular resident. The residents don't like the Mbororo to stay around long because of the damage the cattle do and there's an occasional religious friction point too. Anyway, the Mbororo dude was in jail because the people of Obo thought this guy was a merman and had drowned a local Zanda (one of the local tribes who live there all the time) man in the river. The townspeople wanted to give him some bush justice. The poor Moroccan commander from the UN, The Ugandan Commander, The US SOF Commander all tried to reason with the locals that Mermen aren't real. No luck.

The Moroccans got him out and had him working on the UN camp. No idea what happened to him when the Moroccan battalion got replaced. Odd thing was no one assumed the guy who died got eaten by a crocodile. They're very common in the Obo River.

How DARE you skeptics doubt Discovery Communications!??

Ninja'd! Oh, and it was Animal Planet, part of the same increasingly stupid company.

There are no merfolk. Don't go looking for them.

If you do go looking for them, don't go looking in and around Innsmouth, Massachusetts.

It has a different name now anyhow. You won't recognize it.

If you do recognize it, don't go poking around. You won't see anything unusual.

No, that's not a tentacle. Don't stare. It's not polite.
