Desperate Atheist searching for Answers

Snuffie, take a look at the life and times of another Mexican atheist woman fighting convention: Frida Kahlo. Her life was hard too, but she was inspirational and inspired. You need an example...

It seems your family are intent on telling you what you CAN'T do. Frida is an example of what someone CAN do, if they but try.

You don't need it, but good luck!

Snuffie, déjalo atrás. Me parece que cargas con un peso que no te corresponde.

I "sort of" broke with my family because of my atheism. My mother simply dismisses my assertion: "No. You DO believe". Fine with me! My Mother in Law - a saint if there ever was one - is from Michoacán and very religious. Yet, she never brings the subject, and although she resents (I've heard) she treats me as a King. :)

I have had the luck of disclosing my atheism to others after they have come to know me. If I have been always polite, eager to help, law-abiding, talkative and so, then they have a real problem dumping me... And rarely someone does! So perhaps if you just go ahead, being yourself and enjoying life and even expressing your love, you will too shatter their (pre)cognitive dissonance about atheism.

Buena suerte y que bueno que quisiste platicar en este foro. Yo no me canso de aprender de esta raza multicultural.

But anyways, thanks for all of your support. I think I will do fine being in my current situation and will assert myself in a friendly way should the question of my un-faith come up again. It just saddens me that my parents can't see it and I want them to be happy as well instead of always trying to make a perfect world based on religion. I feel sorry for my brothers, who have to stay behind and listen to their crap.
