DeSantis Would Really Like to Request a Personal Army

What happens to Ronny boy when Florida gets a new, different governor who is keen on ensuring Ronny gets charged with all the misdeeds he has perpetrated so far, like anti-mask mandates? Does the loyalty of this "presidential guard" follow Ronny, or the new guy?

Depending upon how the new regulations are written, the militia probably serves at the whim of the governor or the militia leaders appointed.

Any new governor might be cautious enough to appoint their own head of the militia and ensure the group is composed of people to his/her liking.

Both Ameri and Afri, at a hunch.

What you have said here is horrible and you should feel bad about yourself.

And you left a few off . . .

I grew up in Texas, I got more racist jokes banging around up here than I do spelling bee words. What’s your excuse?

I grew up in Jersey and hateful bile is considered a sign of good breeding.

Does that count as child abuse?

I would assume Texas has had one forever. After all, you don't mess with Texas!

Unless you're Mother Nature and send them a huge winter snow and ice storm that takes out power for days. On the bright side, Texas was Cruz free for several hours.

I challenge Florida to produce 200 citizens unsullied by one thing or another.

I used to live in the **** hole swamp that is Florida. I don't want my neighbors coming to help me in a security emergency. They really are just a bunch of total **** ups. I got this, the DeSantis boy needs to keep his goons the **** away from me.

As noted, State militias have been permitted for some time and many states have them. I would guess that looking at the history of their use in a particular state would likely tell us how that state, at least, views their function. In the case of a state that wants to start or revive one, we presumably must trust the reasons given.

I think most State militias are inactive or decorative and ceremonial. You can look them up in Wikipedia under the heading "State Defense Force."

Some recent efforts to revive State Guards are not so neutral. As I understand it, De Santis says he wants to reactivate the Florida State Guard for disaster relief efforts. This would be a fairly appropriate sort of action, if one trusted De Santis.

I don't trust De Santis at all, and would be entirely unsurprised if he revived the State Guard and then misused it as an anti-administration police force. But in theory, at least, it's a permissible sort of thing to do.

If Florida Democrats were smart they'd equate this with Fidel Castro creating the Voluntary Popular Militia. Painting him as a wannabe Castro dictator at every turn might just hurt Republicans' chances with the Cuban population.

What an incredibly stupid question.

First off, the state guard is not a law enforcement organization. Second, while you may consider anti-mask mandates to be "misdeeds", there is absolutely nothing criminal about them, and only an idiot would expect DeSantis to face prosecution for it. If he ever pays a price for it, it will be at the ballot box, but even there, don't be too sure.

You don't live in Florida anymore. DeSantis isn't going to send the Florida Guard to bother you. You can sleep safe, my troubled friend.

I would say that unless we're the state's legislature or one of its voting citizens, we presumably have no real interest in the question and can happily go about our lives without knowing or caring anything at all about the reasons given.

Now you're being sensible. That's not allowed in the USA Politics forum. He have to hype this up as if there's actually a threat of insurrection here.
