DeSantis Martha's Vineyard Stunt

people have tried to sue over wasted tax dollars. It doesn't work.

You guys are funny. I don't care how they reacted in MA, from a political standpoint. Not one bit.

I'm just happy he sent them out of FL to MA, which is "unofficially" a sanctuary state. As I have said, it is symbolic. None of the targeted voting demographic gives a rat's ass about how the people in MA responded. That really wasn't the point, imo. DeSantis is luring Trump's huge base of supporters into his fold. This is what they can imagine Trump doing.

Seeing the libs freak out is motive enough. It's so funny.

Do you endorse governing with spite as a primary motivation?

Meanwhile, in the "not everyone is an idiot" department, the governor of Vermont has suggested that it would not be such a bad idea to send the next batch up here. He did politely suggest that a little advance notice would be nice, but is looking for possible places to put them if they appear unannounced. Of course that won't likely happen, because it would not be sufficiently unwelcome, and catering to the actual desire of a traditionally pro-immigration Republican governor to boost his state's productive population would not be sufficiently nasty, racist and unpleasant for De Santis and his like, whose desire seems to be largely to enrich themselves at the expense of others.

I would dearly like to be proven wrong on this, but I'm guessing that it will be a cold day in Hell when the clowns doing these stunts actually send people to places where they might prosper and become part of the community.

It looks like the sort of thing I can imagine him doing.

Lawyers for Civil Rights (LCR), a Boston-based legal advocacy group, filed the lawsuit on Tuesday challenging what it called the “fraudulent and discriminatory” scheme to charter private planes to transport almost 50 vulnerable people, including children as young as two, from San Antonio, Texas, via Florida, to Martha’s Vineyard last week without liaising to arrange shelter and other resources.

Yeah, this stunt has certainly backfired on Fat Orange Turd v2.0 now hasn't it? He was hoping to trigger the Libs and have them act like entitled NIMBY hypocrites, and the exact opposite occurred.. and now Vermont have in effect, said "send the next lot here - we could do with some hard-working people to contribute to our community"

No matter where he sends them, if it is to a blue or purple state they will be cared for, and in any case, its easy enough to just fly them to Vermont from wherever they land.

El Paso has been doing that for sometime, getting legal immigrants to the place they want to go. Saw an interview with their deputy city manager. They fund some bus trips, and NGO's help out too. Of course, it should be noted that the mayor of El Paso is a Democrat, and the city is about 80% Latino... I cannot find the political affiliation of the interviewee I saw.

According to DHS, the migrants had just entered the country when this occurred. They were assigned nearby addresses and courts. It is not the fault of DHS that they were subsequently transported far away.

All of the above depends on DHS telling the truth, of course, but it seems plausible and I don't see a good reason to doubt it yet.

No, they were initially assigned addresses and courts in places hundreds if not thousands of miles away from Texas, not just from Massachusetts. As I said, even if DeSantis had not pulled this stunt, they would have still been ****** over by "the system" in operation at the border. Moving them to MV simply highlighted that this has happened by making it visible. Making the stunt a really stupid thing to do for yet another reason.

We see, for the record, that the abuse of your fellow humans doesn't register as an issue with you.

You, in fact, endorse the abuse of others.

And you wonder why your point of view can't get traction in the civilized world.

Living up to the GQP motto: Hurting others is our only purpose.

We see projection at work

Time again we are told that this and that done by others (judges, gov't employees, Democrats) is "just politics".

But here we see political gamesmanship as the justification for the abuse of these people. And they are people.

Sure. And the end justifies the means, thus far.

Normally, when someone says the end justifies the means, they mean that the end is noble enough that it outweighs the harm of the means. In this case, the end is purely selfish. If the end justifies the means in this case, then it justifies the means in every case in which the outcome is good for the actor.

In other words, if you think the end justifies the means here, then you're simply an egoist and to hell with other people to begin with.

If actions such as this lead to DeSantis having enough right-wing support to land the White House in 2024, it is a justifiable tactic, imo. Let the losers argue with one another over who is most virtuous.

You're absolutely right. I didn't understand that point previously, but here's an excerpt.

By the time they reached the border, Figueroa had lost his phone, and did not have contact information for his family members in South Florida. So, he said, immigration officials in Eagle Pass assigned him an address and court date in New York.

That's a crap policy, but it's not one which is directed just at the migrants who traveled to the Vineyard. The idea is, I think, that if they haven't a destination, you can assign any destination and any court and they can change it at a later date when they've settled, but it does sound like a stupid policy. Better to assign at least a court near the processing center as a default.

Sure. Winners don't need basic decency. It only slows you down.

I thought that the fact you didn't give a damn about the Venezuelans because they have special asylum status was bad. In fact, you don't really give a damn about anyone. You're just impressed with winners and decency got nothing to do with it.

Though, I suppose that if the Democrats put you and yours in a tight situation for political advantage, you won't be so forgiving.

How dare you and Massachusetts have Republican governors who are nice guys and not ******* ********!

Clearly your notion of "good" government in reality embraces amoral behavior.

I sense something broken.

Well you're not wrong there. All these Holocaust and Nazi comparisons to what amounts to by far the easiest part of these migrants journey.

The average Venezuelan has lost 8kg due to food shortages. Then they have to hike the Darian Gay and watch people in their party fall off cliffs and drown in mud. Then it's a walk through Central Americo and Mexico sleeping with one eye open and looking over your shoulder in hopes of not being beaten, raped or robbed all the while relying on the kindness of strangers for food and potable water. After finally making it to the US border, it's detention for a while, maybe a bus trip into town and dropped off at a temporary shelter. All this while pretty much penniless.

One guy in the MV party told of having his two gold teeth forcibly ripped out while in Mexico because he didn't have the money to pay the toll to the criminal gangs/ He didn't receive the needed medical/dental care he needed until he arrived in MA.

A majority of Venezuelan voters cast a ballot for Trump and other Republicans in 2020. Their experiences growing up under socialism have been less than stellar.

This just illustrates how silly this whining is. Even though they were flown to MA (how cool that must have been for these simple folk), they still have it like 100x better than they did in that dump of a country they came from. Hell, probably better than had they stayed in TX or FL. This is just a speedbump for them. And they are suing, lol.

Seems like everyone wins in the end.

The governor doesn't have to wait. He can take the bull by the horns, charter a few bussed, head down to San Antonio and make his pitch. Well he can do that if he actually means that bit about boosting his state's productive population and isn't just virtue signaling. It's totally win-win.
