Derren Brown is no different than Uri Gellar.

Anyone watching tonights show about remote viewing ?

I didn't see it but from an MSN conversation:

"He had a picture he drew in a museum, apparently he did a show with various tricks then unveiled the picture which matched up hopefully to what people drew at home. He says he did by planting the image of concentric circles in various newspapers which influenced people to be thinking of concentric circles and that's what they would draw when they watched the program tonight."

The point of the episode was to apparently show how Derren can do remote viewing without being psychic and he has done it by influencing people subliminally with newspapers - so he says, of course.

Can anyone who did see it confirm this ?

That's as ridiculous as his lottery explanation and loads of people bought that.

I'm hoping I have been given inaccurate information.

regretfully I did just waste however many minutes of my life that show just was...I can confirm the above (not got any newspapers though). he also showed a blind man who can apparently use echo-location like a bat to map out his surroundings to a degree and said several times it was 'genuine' and 'real', can anyone confirm this?

Yes.

The blind man is real.

Wot!

Are you serious ?

Batman.

On Derrens show tonight, was Batman ?

Would the Batkid be eligible for the million dollar challenge ?

Probably not, because echolocation is not paranormal. Is it?

I think it probably is if you don't have wings and sleep upside down.

Not only do you need the ability to receive the sound through highly tuned receptors. I doubt human ears are up to it, but biology isn't my strong point. You also need to be able to create a very high frequency noise.

What did you think of the link I posted a while back?

I think you posted an interview, not the result of an independent scientific test.

I am also skeptical of someone who claims to have an ability like this who is selling his techniques in seminars and workshops etc.

Can you search YouTube and see if it's posted up there? Then we can all be on the same page.

I can't find it on Youtube, but I found a description of the trick online:

The "Invisible Deal" and "Invisible Deal Force" both make use of what I call advanced equivoque. The thinking behind the effects reminds me of some of Kenton Kneppers stuff. It's a very skilful and quietly complex series of verbal instructions that produce a desired effect. In the DVD he either verbally produces the spectator's card from an invisible deck (not an Invisible Deck gimmick but one that is really NOT THERE) or he forces the spectator to name a card that has been placed on the table and has been in plain view the entire time. All is done verbally. No sleight of hand.

The mental forces are very specific. In the DVD he forces the J of S, the 3 or 4 of C and the 4 of H. Now, these aren't %100 accurate so there is a good deal of chance to the process but if you hit you hit really, really big. In watching the explanations (especially the mental forces) I couldn't help but wonder about the entire process of trial and error for concocting the proper sentences with the proper gestures to get the instructions across just to get the participant to name the card much less do it subtly enough so as not to be detected that you're telling the spectator what card they should choose. For that is what you are doing -- you are telling them what card they should select mentally. Brilliant is the only word for these effects and the mind that created them.

So two posters LandR and Dreadnik both complain about a show, only one of them has seen and both incorrectly describe what happened. Wow.

Derren DID NOT draw anything.
Nice debunking of the remote viewer though.

What I did think was interesting about tonight's show was the remote viewer he brought in. Derren fairly convincingly showed that there was nothing to this guy's "talent", but he only ever referred to him by the name "Dr Carr", never once mentioning his first name.

Guess why? His first name is Wayne!

I didn't complain about the show. I relayed what I was told and asked for conformation from someone who had seen the show.

I was very clear in my post I had not seen the show. I was very clear that I was going on what I had been told about the show. I was very clear that I was asking for confirmation on what was on the show.

I didn't complain once about the show, I'm sorry if you feel offended because you interpreted it in that way. I even said I hope I have been giving incorrect information.

Since you appear to have seen the show maybe you can fill us in rather than making smart arsed comments.

Sorry, I didn't notice your edit. Why does the noise need to be very high frequency? And how high is "very high" in this context?

Wow. You nitpick one minor point and think somehow that means anything. As far as I'm concerned, he drew it. We never actually saw who did draw it but OK, he claimed someone else drew it. In any case, he knew and most likely decided what the drawing was about (how else did he plant the clues?) The whole 'person who drew it' (can't remember her name) was clearly misdirection (and suggestion? - the camera focused on her eyes which looked very much like...concentric circles, exactly what '30%' of people drew)

I'm complaining because it was a rubbish show. Just like the lottery one...If the bat guy was genuine, then that was cool, but I've no idea, it seemed a bit unlikely but not completely outside the realm of possibility.

The remote viewer debunking wasn't anything special...
