Dennis Rodman’s buffoonery in North Korea edges into treason

I doubt that this qualifies as treason, but it certainly seems to qualify as stupid, from reading the report.

However, I haven't watched the video yet so for all I know Rodman may have spoken with charisma, charm, panache and been the model of decorum, only to be misrepresented by the Yankee Imperialist Aggressor's reactionary running dog propaganda broadcasters.

I believe that I know the main reason for Rodman's behavior, as bizarre as it is. It's very simple, really -- ego.

This is a man who's used to being the center of attention, who is no longer in that position. He's a has-been, relegated to trying to keep in the public eye by being on The Apprentice, or other stuff like that. The man is desperate to be seen as important and special.

This whole Kim Jong Un thing accomplishes that on two different levels. First, obviously, it puts him in the center of the media spotlight...and allows him to depict himself as a world-class diplomat who is seeking to solve a problem that nobody else can. He's directly made this very claim on multiple occasions (although now he seems to be backing off from that aspect a little).

But more than that, Kim Jong Un treats him the way he things he should be treated. Expensive dinners, lavish praise, expensive gifts, etc. He gets to hobnob privately with the President of a country. What are the odds, do you think, that Obama would invite him to have a private dinner with him? (Although, going back to the OP, he'd have a decent chance of having dinner with Rob Ford...they'd probably share stories about how the media abuses them, and they're misunderstood by the public)

And that is why he's acting the way he is. Because, very simply, a guy who would treat him, Dennis Rodman, so nicely very obviously must be a nice guy, and everyone else just doesn't understand the real situation. Rodman is quite incapable of viewing anything outside of the perspective of how he is treated, how he feels.

Rodman has been a flaming POS for many years, and proud of it. This is news? He has a "good heart" like I have a third arm. Given that, NK is the perfect place for him. I hope he pops off to the wrong person and "disappears." The world will be a better place.

And to think he was the classiest player on the 1991 Pistons.
Yeah right. In fact you could say "he was the classiest _________" and fill in the blank with anything and it would be laughably false.

Someday, and I believe it can't be too long from now, there will be a reckoning for the Kim crime family. I wonder how steadfastly Kim Jong Un's "friend" Dennis Rodman will stand by him then.

Hopefully he will be with Kimmy at that point in time..

I couldn't understand him at all beyond a certain point. It looked like the team members were attempting to stop him, to no avail. The ones visible in frame looked really worried and uneasy. I'd be terrified in their place.

This is not a rational man.

As for his companions, they deserve whatever discomfort they get. It's not like they had to go all the way to North Korea to find out that that country is Hell on Earth, that its leader is a horrendous tyrant and that their friend Dennis is a raving loon.

On the other hand, this whole thing could be really unimportant if the media didn't pay Rodman any attention. It's not treasonous for him to go there befriend the maestro of man-eating dog packs, but it sure is lamentable that we have to hear about it.

I think the man-eating dogs has been pretty definitively proven to have been made up.

You really should have watched the video, it makes your response unecessary.

This is the Dennis I remember. Out there, but honest.

This is the Dennis Rodman that I remember:

I wish that cameraman had smashed that huge TV camera down on Rodman's knee, ending his career. That's what he deserved. He is a total freak. It sucks that society glorifies @holes the way it does. Kim will never do anything to Rodman--he's too high-profile, but eventually he'll say the wrong thing and not be invited back and not even realize why. This is what happens when we give illiterate, ignorant, uneducated thugs a free ticket to college athletics and professional sports.

He defied all expectations. ;)

Dennis, bowing and scraping to a monster.

ETA:: Not humorous at all, but when he began to sing, I couldn't help thinking of Marylin Monroe's breathy tones when singing "Happy birthday Mr. President" to JFK.

Ha ha! That's exactly what I thought.

I wonder how many of those players must be thinking, "Why the Hell did we come to North Korea with the only person crazier than North Korea?"

Except this is true. After the Bulls swept them in the playoffs every single Piston ran pouting off the court without shaking hands, except for Rodman.

What Rodman is doing is in the best interests of the US and the Western World. He won't be fooling anyone that matters. And might, in future, come in handy in some capacity.

For all I know, he's being secretly sponsored now by the CIA.

Indeed! Dennis is sadly crazy but lovable. G-d gave him a great talent. Without that talent and money, he would be living under a bridge. Basketball Diplomacy can't hurt and might help. Jong should let Bae go and thank Dennis. :D I bet Jong is saying "How do I get into this with Dennis, too and how do we get rid of him"?

Tell that to all the North Koreans living and dying in political prison camps, many of them the relatives of the accused, interned for guilt by association, and most of whom will never leave the camps alive. Tell that to the starving millions in the country. You may have a hard-on for the muzzies and that's fine, but that's not really the issue here.
Well for sure, I don't support keeping women and girls as a permanent underclass. North Korea is but one of many dictatorships in the world. Why single them out?
And what or why would we care about Jong's uncle?
