Dennis Hastert indicted.

Time for Denny to hunker down and have his PR guys bleat about a come-to-Jesus moment, wait till it all blows over

It'll be funny to see what different people think the actual bad part about this is. Some will think the main sin was having an affair at all, others will think it was the sex of the other party that's the bad thing, some won't care about that but will care about the teacher/student thing, others will judge it nothing unless the other guy were below age of consent, and some will find the only bad part of it was the blackmail!

It's like a litmus test to determine the personal morality of the person reacting to the news.

My take:
Underage, teacher-student relationship, ick.
Decades later, fully grown man engages in blackmail, ick.
So far that's all I got for this

It's like the old joke: "Oh, dear, I just saw the most awful thing! My beloved son was screwing the stableboy! It's the most shocking thing, I feel sick! The stableboy is Catholic!"

For my morality, as long as the other party was willing and old enough, the sex part was fine. The blackmail isn't, though, and both receiving it and paying it are dreadful offenses. Blackmail is a terrible social ill. I believe the proper response to blackmail is to instantly murder your blackmailer then tell the world why you did it and what they were blackmailing you over. It's the secrecy that causes problems, the truth shall set you free! Any reasonable jury would acquit.

Interesting how Fox News will try to spin this since on Fox News only Democrats do nasty things.

Proud to say I've never watched.

I'm actually pretty surprised this is coming out so fast.
At first I had thought he'd be able to keep the reason secret, now it looks like we'll know a name soon.

Then you'll have people who will blame liberals for making such a big deal out of something that happened so long ago. He's unlikely to have re-offended since the initial incident(s), so we should all just stop criticizing the man out of respect for the victim.

Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert paid a man to conceal sexual misconduct while the man was a student at the high school where Hastert taught, a federal law enforcement official told NBC News on Friday.

So, it seems to have been a gay affair?
