Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert has been indicted for lying to the FBI about hush money he paid to someone, apparently to cover up past misconduct.

J. Dennis Hastert, the longest serving Republican speaker in the U.S. House, was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury on charges that he violated banking laws in a bid to pay $3.5 million because of “past misconduct” against an unnamed individual from their hometown west of Chicago.

The indictment did not spell out the exact nature of the “prior misconduct” by Hastert against the individual from his hometown, Yorkville, but noted that before entering politics in 1981, Hastert spent more than a decade as a teacher and wrestling coach at the local high school. This unnamed individual mentioned in the indictment has known Hastert for most of their life, the indictment states.

Lesson #1: When the FBI comes asking about your illegal activities, whatever they be, clam up and say nada. Martha Stewart was never tried for insider trader, but rather for lying to the FBI. Now, it's true that Hastert is also charged with structuring, but that's simply not has easy to prove as the crime of lying to investigators.

In any case, I don't like this cause for investigation in the first place, any more than I did when it happened to Eliot Spitzer. He was also eyed for withdrawing his own money from his own bank account in suspicious quantities. I can understand sniffing out the structured deposits, but the withdrawals? Jeez.

Wonder if it's just a matter of time before Individual A's identity is published and why Dennis Hastert paid?

Oh, you can probably hold your breath and not even faint before at least the identity is revealed.

Which would render the hush money that's already been paid out rather meaningless.

Oh c'mon, Denny went duggar on some young wrestler and has been paying him blackmail for 30 years.

Don't ever talk to the FBI without a lawyer.

Obviously Hastert was being blackmailed. I wonder if the person he was paying will wind up on the docket as well.

Here is what I believe this may be related to; Many years ago when he was a high school wrestling coach, there were allegations of inappropriate sexual contact with the athletes.

Coach H: Okay boys, we're going to wrestle like the ancient Greeks and I'll show you a move I invented called the Full Hastert.

Wrestler A: Did the ancient Greeks really use lube?

Hopefully and likely for tax evasion if the hush money was not reported as income!!!:D:D:D:D:D

Box 29B: report income from illegal blackmail, extortion, piracy, and supermurder (fill out Form 5593F to determine if murders committed qualify as supermurder).

Did you know you can split losses from supermurder across up to four separate fiscal years?
