"But no Democratic leaders have endorsed the measure, and the silence coming from their offices this week has highlighted the potential political difficulty in raising the minimum wage — a move that’s anathema to the powerful business lobby — amid sluggish economic times.Concerns about the economy have increased since last Friday, when a jobs report showed an anemic May during which only 69,000 jobs were added. A higher minimum wage could discourage employers from creating more jobs and that, in turn, could hurt President Obama in the election."

Why are we looking at something from 2012?

ETA: Maybe something a bit more current, and relevant. The GOP blocking the minimum wage

Maybe it illustrates that the Democrats aren't all that committed to a minimum wage increase? And that their noise about it recently is only a fart in the wind to get votes in an election year?

So if something might not be good at one period in time, then that means that circumstances can never change? If you're opposed to something you must be opposed to something for life, or are you merely implying the age old, "No one votes for democrats unless they're looking for a hand out?"

So the Dems still don't want one, they just want to SAY they want an increase, which the repubs will not pass, and the dems will be able to gain votes from the working class because "they tried". And the repubs will also gain from their business contributors by saying "we prevented higher costs of labor". Win-Win. Business as usual, while maintaining the status quo.

Perhaps they realized that they made a mistake in 2010 and are now trying to resolve their mistake.

Well, what changed then? What was going on in 2012 that made a higher minimum wage a bad idea but now it's all good?

I imply nothing. I just asking questions. . .

I see someone didn't get the memo. Four legs good. Two legs bad!

More evidence that our choices are between a center-right party and a *******-crazy-right party, quite the contrast from the fevered delusions of the conservatives who insist our choices are between "Socialism" (D) and "Socialism Lite" (R).

You may have been sarcastic, but your actually right on the button as evidenced by right wing posters in this thread.

Economy good? Cut taxes to give more money back to those who it belongs to.
Economy bad? Cut takes to give the investor class a motive to job create.
Economy sos. Tax cuts

So yea, it seems to be right wing sickness that when it comes to certain subject there is only one magikal answer no matter what. With people like this changing your mind because you recognize that the same solution will not work under all circumstances is considered a weakness and no answer other than their preconceived one will suffice.

Shouldn't this be in the History sub-forum? (In the absence of an "Embarrassingly Partisan Attempts to Tar The Other Guys" sub-forum.)

Benghazi!

In 2012, Democrats were in the minority in the House, and it wasn't going anywhere anyway, even if every Democrat supported it. Perhaps they should have made it an issue then, but I guess they thought its time had not come yet. It's about picking your battles I guess. In the minority, they could hardly "block" something that wasn't going to be brought to the floor by the Speaker of the House anyway, although they could have staked out a clearer party position on the issue.

While a majority of jobs lost during the downturn were in the middle range of wages, a majority of those added during the recovery have been low paying, according to a new report from the National Employment Law Project.
....
Lower-wage occupations, with median hourly wages of $7.69 to $13.83, accounted for 21 percent of job losses during the retraction. Since employment started expanding, they have accounted for 58 percent of all job growth.
So the previous increase in the minimum wage appears to be justified.
