The democrats, meeting at their presidential convention, denounced the war. They said it was unconstitutional, unwinnable, and called for peace negotiations. They said the president was a buffoon. Civil rights were being ignored, they said. They declaimed the loss of life. They bitterly charged that the president's friends were making tons of money from war contracts.

Democrat Convention, Boston, 2004?

No .... Democrat Convention, Chicago, 1864.

I realise you got this from someone's blog, but what's your (or, to be clear, the blogger's) point, exactly?

Amazing .... foaming-at-the-mouth gene-missing liberal/left wingnuts have substituted their zillions of blogs for every other kind of medium as a source of info, and they actually extrapolate that to others! :D

The point? Probably beyond the scope of your brain.

The point, as I see it, is that Patrick is either unaware, or ignoring the fact that the Democrats in the time of Lincoln were the conservative party and the Republicans were liberals.

Not surprising, since most of the neanderthal, dark-ages-thinking conservative/innappropriately-named-right morons (to use Patty's tactics) tend to ignore this fact.

Uh, no, you're wrong about that. Sure, most abolitionists were in the republican party, but on most issues they weren't "liberal". The point is that history repeats itself - the democrats of today have the same myopia as the ones in 1864.

Patrick,

It must be so easy for you to go through life with a clear division of "us" and "Them" in your mind.

Simple black and white, that way you don't have to think about it. Let Rush think about it for you, let Fox News tell you what the issues are.

I envy your blissful parroting.

:(

Did you hear _any_ of those accusations made from a keynote speaker at the DNC this year? I sure didn't.
